Heading DUDE!!!
“The American crab boil will become a thing of the past.” When I heard these words from the news broadcaster I screamed “AHHHHH, WHAT!”Needless to say when this information was presented to me I was shocked; the blue crab or (callinectessapidus) was put on the threatened list in Texas. This new status in the blue crab would change life for many seafood loving people in South Texas. As I calmed down it became clear there were specific reasons why this had to be done.Every year the stocks of the crab are reported lower than the last. If this species of crab were to become extinct it would severely damage the bays of the east coast and the bays of the Gulf of Mexico. The ocean is dependent on a ecosystem and to prevent this environmental disaster we must do several things: stop the output of pollution into the bays, enact more restrictions on crabbing and build a blue crab hatcheryif these things were enforced and put into place this species can be taken off the endangered list.
Pollution in the Gulf has become a major issue and it has affected the blue crab; therefore this sea animal was placed on the endangered list.If we want to help the crab and other species of fish and marine mammals we must act now before it is to late by petitioning your local area for regular beachimmediate cleanups, and new laws should be proposed to stop all the ocean waste. This great garbage patch is about the size of Texas and it contains 3.5 million tons of trash. The trash consists of shoes, toys, bags, pacifiers, wrappers, toothbrushes and bottles. The things listed are just a short list of things that can be found within this great Garbage patch. It is obvious that we need to clean up the oceans otherwise we are not only going to kill the animals in the ocean but also endanger our own existence. Over fishing in the seas has also caused a big problem in species becoming endangered.
Over fishing plagues all of the oceans, bays, rivers and lakes of ourplanet. The blue crabs a species decline is due to overfishing. The blue crab is not affected by commercial fishing because of strict regulations,The main threat to the crab is the recreationalcrabber. The recreational crabber willtake about a bushel of male and female crab which is about forty crab. This may not sound like a really bad thing but whenyou have thousands of people not following the guidelines, rules and regulations society run into trouble. When people show disregard for the rules and take any type of crab the females are not able to lay their eggs. If females can’t lay their eggs then there will not be a new generation.
Despite over fishing and mismanagement of the species there still is hope. The solution I see working well is the east coast needs to build crab hatcheries; this with dramatically increase the crabs chance of survival. This solution sounds simple enough but there are difficulties to arise –the baby crabs tend to eat each other, so this mean they would have to separate the baby crabs. This would prove to be more expensive but it would help save this endangered creature. But can one really put a price on saving a species.
All of the Information in the is true and should be used in the effort to help save this species of crab from extinction. As I said there still is hope for the crab if the states order immediate cleanup, a bag limit for recreational fisherman, And the construction of state hatcheries. The American Saturday crab boil still can be saved and hopefully will be enjoyed by the generations to come.
