Introduce a junior professional (Mr. Ram Rao ) to the chief product architect (Ms. Director) for the company’s software division.

Introduce an employee (Mr. Sung) to a customer Mark Smith and Jessica Ramos, members of the plastic engineering team who participated in a recent teleconference.

( “Mr. Sung, I would like to introduce our plastics engineering team. This is Mark Smith, Jessica Ramos and Liang Zhu. All three participated in last week’s teleconference regarding product definition.”)

Introduce a host (Elaine) to a guest (Adriana): (“Elaine, I don’t think you have met my daughter, Adriana. Adriana arranged for for the food for this party. Elaine is my project manager.)

Introduce a local guest (Debbie) to a from-another-town guest (Suresh). (“Suresh, this is Debbie. Debbie is my colleague from work. Debbie, Suresh is visiting me from Ann Arbor. We shared an apartment when we went to school at the University of Michigan.”)

Three students will role play sitting around a table eating salsa and chips. Some behaviors that they should exhibit:

a)Blowing their nose at the table.

b)Starting to eat before others are at the table.

c)Either burping or belching.

d)Talking about a morbid subject such as someone’s death.

Situation 2: What’s wrong? What is right here?

Three students are involved in the role play: one student is the host/hostess who seats them at the table and two students role play a situation where one person is a potential employer who has invited the potential employee to have dessert with him/her after a meeting to discuss the possible job. Some elements of the role play:

a) Sitting down at the table.

b)Ordering from the dessert menu. Question: Who orders first and how does the invited person know how much to order?

c)Regarding the possible job:

  1. The job: What is it? Where is it? How much is the salary?
  2. Potential employee’s education and experience?

d)The potential employee’s cell phone rings during the event. What should s/he do?

Situation 3: What’s wrong? What is right here?

Mom and Dad invite the new boyfriend of their daughter to dinner. Some elements of the role play:

a)Sitting down at the table.

b)When does the guest start to eat?

c)When is the meal over?

d)What should the guest do if he needs to use the restroom during the meal?

e)What should he do if he receives a text buzz during the meal?
