On June 21, 2012, York Region Children‘s Aid Society, Girls Incorporated of York Region, FSYR, Women’s Support Network of York Region and Yellow Brick House will host a shared Annual General Meeting at the Community Safety Village in Stouffville. The meeting will recognize the important work that has been done to coordinate the efforts of these non-profit organizations, the York Regional Police and the Crown Attorney’s office. York Regional Police Chief Eric Jolliffe, of the York Regional and Mr. Stephen Friedman, executive coach, career coach, trainer & speaker of the Schulich School of Business at York University, will be the Keynote Speakers.
York Region Children's Aid Society works to ensure the safety and well-being of children in York Region through protection, prevention and advocacy, in partnership with families and community. York CAS is a team of skilled staff, foster parents and community volunteers who are legally responsible for and passionately committed to protecting children and strengthening families.
Girls Incorporated of York Region delivers life-changing programs that inspire girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Research-based curricula, delivered by trained professionals, equip girls to achieve academically; lead healthy and physically active lives; manage money; navigate media messages; and discover an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math. G.I.Y.R. serves 1,500 girls annually in all Municipalities of York Region and in Bradford.
FSYR provides outreach and counseling to over 6,000 people annually, helping them cope with the ups and downs of everyday life and heal from negative things that have happened. FSYR helps people with some of life’s most complex and painful challenges such as child abuse, family breakdown and mental health issues.
The Women’s Support Network provides immediate crisis support via their crisis phone line, as well as, longer term counseling to women who have experienced sexual violence. The agency reaches out to elementary and secondary schools to encourage healthy relationships and advocates in the community for an end to sexual violence.
Yellow Brick House works with abused women and children, providing emergency shelter, counseling services, legal, housing and immigration supports as well as child witness and child counseling supports. Last year alone they worked with over 5,500 women and children who have experienced domestic violence and have reached out to more than 9000 students with a focus on healthy relationships and violence prevention.
Together, these organizations are committed to the well being of York Region residents. Though each organization focuses on specific areas of expertise, their collaborative efforts ensure that resources are used most effectively and that people seeking help are connected with the services they need.
