Reporting to: The Deputy Manager and Nursery Manager/Senior Childcare Practitioner in the Deputy’s absence.

Main Purpose of Job:

Priory Street Nursery is a 23 place nursery for children aged 3 months to 5 years. The Nursery was rated as Good by Ofsted in 2014. The main purpose of the role is to:

  1. Participate in the work and development of the nursery, in accordance with our aims and objectives.
  1. To work as an effective member of the team delivering high quality care that meets the individual needs of the young children and their families.
  1. Support other staff in maintaining a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual education for all children in the nursery.
  1. Work in partnership with parents/carers to promote children’s learning, development and well-being.
  1. Support other staff within the nursery and be an integral member of the team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To be committed to the ethos of Priory Street Nursery and the values of York CVS.
  1. To be up to date and act in accordance with all current relevant legislation, the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework; and policies and procedures, including Safeguarding and Child Protection, Healthy Child, Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity and Confidentiality.
  1. Assist staff in implementing planned activities/experiences in line with the EYFS suitable to the age/stage and interests of children.
  1. Undertake observationsof children as and when required.
  1. Assist staff in delivering activities/experiences which encourage independence, self-motivation and an eagerness to learn in a stimulating, learning environment both indoors and out, as part of the daily routine.
  1. Contribute to the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures, religious backgrounds and ages/stages of development.
  1. Assist staff in developing positive working relationships with parents/carers, other family members and staff to help ensure that the individual care and education needs of the children are met and that parental choice is considered in terms of care given.
  1. To be a positive role model in actively promoting the development ofspeech and language acquisition, social skills and physical abilities.
  1. Be flexible, creative and have the commitment to provide outstanding childcare whilst upholding the nursery’s high standards and profile.
  1. Ensure confidentiality of information received.
  1. Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in relation to self, children, equipment and surroundings at all times.
  1. Undertake certain domestic jobs within the nursery, e.g. cleansing of equipment and such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the Nursery Manager/Deputy Manager/Senior Childcare Practitioner.
  1. To provide first aid to any persons or children as and when necessary.
  1. Record accidents on the accident record forms, ensuring that it is signed by the Nursery Manager/Deputy Manager before parent/carers sign it.
  1. To assist staff in meeting all health and safety needs of all children, staff, parent/carers and visitors.

Ongoing training and support will be provided to assist the post holder in undertaking all aspects of this job description satisfactorily.
