Year 4 – Home Learning Challenges Spring Term 2015 – Roman Invasion!

Your aim is to earn at least 15 points during this challenge. You may earn more points if you wish. Bring your challenges in as you complete them to share with the rest of the class during ‘Home Learning’ on Fridays. You have until Friday 24th April 2015 (The week after Easter).

Creative / Design your own Roman coin. Explain to the class what the design means. / Draw or paint a picture of one of the Roman gods. / Carefully look at pictures of Roman shields and design and make your own. / Create a model of a Roman building or landmark.
Literacy / Find a picture of a Roman soldier and write 10 adjectives to describe them. / Write a short poem about an aspect of our Roman Invasion topic. / Create an information leaflet about an aspect of our Roman Invasion topic. / Visit a Roman site and write a review of your visit. Alternatively take a tour of a Roman site on google maps and write a review.
Maths / Find 10 examples of how roman numerals are used today. / Write a secret message using roman numerals and an alphabet key (e.g. VII=B) and bring it in for your classmates to decode. / Write 10 addition or subtraction calculations using roman numerals. / Create a 3x3 Sudoku puzzle using the roman numerals for 1 to 9 and challenge the class to complete it.
Research/
ICT / Find 3 websites that would be useful for children to find out more about the Romans. Explain to the class why they are useful. / Imagine you are living in Britain before the Romans invade. Design a poster on a computer to advertise or warn that the Romans are coming. / Research a recipe for Roman food and present it in your own words. For 2 bonus points make the recipe and bring it in to share. / Plan a trip across the UK to visit as many Roman towns as possible and using as many Roman roads as possible. Record the distances between the towns and how long it would take to get between each one.

I will keep a record of the home learning you have completed and certificates and any prizes will be awarded at the end of the half term.
