My experience at KCA

It was a wonderful, humid day at KCA (Kingdom Creative Arts) school in Fiji. The weather was pleasant and I gazed up at the Baby Blue sky and the white, fluffy clouds! I hear the wind blowing as I walk toward my class, children socializing, and the sound of instruments playing in the background.

As I walked towards my class, my friend, Sharon, shows up and starts talking to me. She always talks to me about anything because she always wants to engage in a conversation with me. She starts a topic about McDonald’s and the Recital coming up because we had to practice a song together. As we walk to the classes, we begin to hear the sound of drumming so we hurry up and run to check it out!

We approach the class and find the Drum instructor, Nelson, playing the drums like a boss as usual! Then we have our Piano instructor, Ben, playing “Hope.” We also have our Bass Guitarist, Emanuel, and our Electric Guitarist, Josh; they are amazing guitarists! I sit there and watch them play together as a band while Grace, a student Vocalist, is singing the song, Hope. After they are done, it is time for our practice run!

I see my little sister playing tag with someone and say to myself, “It’s good that she’s having fun.” I go inside and get on the Drum set, start counting, and play. As I am playing, my instructor tells me to slow down or speed up, because he knows I tend to speed up or lose count while playing. My friend, Sharon, is doing fine on the Piano but my instructor says, “Drums are the Foundation of the song. If the Drums mess up, the whole song falls apart.” So being a drummer, I have a lot of obligation to keep the tempo of the song, otherwise the whole band will fall apart.

At the school, I am taking 5 classes, Vocals with Piano, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and Drums. As I play each instrument, I notice how each instrument feels. Pianos have soft, smooth keys, Bass guitar strings are hard so you need callus on your finger, same for Electric guitar, and the drumsticks are rough toward the edges because that’s the part where you hit the cymbals with and do your drum rolls.

Gathered around each other, a friend shows up with some bags of chips and soda, so we all wash our hands and dig in! I eat some Barbecue chips but not that much because they’re pretty salty. And as we’re all talking, I smell someone chewing gum and ask for one bar. I am done with all my practices for today and everyone is departing, including myself. I wave goodbye to my friend and can’t wait for the next practice day.

As the day is drawing to a close, I look up at the sky and see the wonderful sunset. The sky has many colors and shades of Orange, Pink, and Lavender. I see McDonald’s and I ask my mom if we can go grab a burger. I am looking back at KCA and I think to myself, “I am so glad I have a community like this where I can learn Music and enjoy time with my friends. KCA is the Best!”
