Year 10 Science Visit - ‘New Scientist LiveConference’ - London.

New Scientist Live is the world’s most exciting festival of ideas and discovery. Rooted in the biggest, best and most provocative science, New Scientist Live will touch on all areas of human life. The show will feature five immersive zones covering Humans, Engineering, Technology, Earth and Cosmos, plus a main stage with lots of inspirational guest speakers such as Heston Blumenthal and Jim Al-Khalili. Each feature area will be packed with exhibitions and workshops to get students involved.

The most up-to-date information on the conference can be found at The show will take place at ExCeL London and we would like to give our students the opportunity to take part in this festival of science along with a visit to the science museum and a trip on the London Eye.

The cost of the trip is £255.Pupil premium students may qualify for some support towards the cost; please inquire to Mr McAuley or Mr Olsen if you would like to go on the trip and are a pupil premium student. Included in the trip is:

  • Return coach travel departing school in the afternoon of the Thursday 28th September and returning late in the evening on Saturday 30th September.
  • Two nights bed and breakfast at YHA Thameside on 28th and 29th September
  • Entrance to the New Scientist Live conference on Friday 29th September
  • Entrance to London Eye
  • Entry to the Science Museum is free
  • Travel insurance
  • Evening Meals at Maxwell’s in Covent Garden and Planet Hollywood.

Additional costs not included in the price of the trip would be to cover food whilst travelling two and from London and lunches whist in London. A more detailed itinerary will be sent out closer to the departure date.

If you would like your son/daughter to go on the trip please pay a £40 deposit on parent pay before 10am on Tuesday 16th May. A second payment of £80 is required by Tuesday 6th June with the remaining balance due by Friday 14th July. We initially have 30 spaces booked which will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. If demand is high we will aim to accommodate additional numbers if possible though if students are unsuccessful any deposits paid will be returned. If you haven’t registered for this service, please email your child’s full name and pastoral class to: , with the subject line ‘Parentpay’ and you will be emailed a username and password within 2 working days.

If you are unable to use Parentpay, payment may be made by cash using the Paypoint network at participating local convenience stores. In order to pay by this method you will need a Paypoint barcode letter, which is unique to every pupil and trip, from the Finance Office. Please contact the school Finance Office who will arrange this for you.
