Working with labels

1)Open the course to which you would like to add the label and click the Turn editing on button

2)Select the week/topic where the label is to be located and use the drop-down resource menu to insert a label.

3)This will take you to the “Adding a new Label” page(below).

4)If you simply want to add text, type it in then click on Save and return to course

Don’t forget, if you are unsure;click the “help” icon for more information about each function.

5)Buttons in the text editor

/ These two icons change the text font colour and the background
colour
/ If you are going to be using the same colour throughout your course, you might want to take note of the colour code.
/ HTML link -
This enables you to link to a web page, or another page or file in Moodle. First you need to highlight the text or picture you would like to be hyperlinked.

/ URL:You can either type in the web address or copy or paste the url (web link) directly here. Remember to delete the ‘ first if you are copying and pasting. If you want to link to a file in Moodle, choose Browse… and select the file.
Title:You may wish to type in some text which will appear when the mouse hovers over it.
Target:Here you can choose what kind of window should be called up – None,New window, Same frame, or Same window. Choose “New window”unless you want the page to open in the same window. default=None.
/ HTML editor
This ‘toggles’ the view from the text editor to html.
/ It is not necessary to understand the html code, but it may be useful when working with multimedia files.
/ Insert picture
Moodle recognises JPG, GIF and PNG as image files. (If you want to insert a BMP (bitmap) you will need to save it as one of the above types before uploading to Moodle)
/
  1. Click on the insert image icon
  2. Either choose an image file from the files in the list (by clicking on the file name) or browse and upload one from your computer.
  3. The image will show in the ‘preview’ box. If it is not the right size, you can alter it in the boxes above. Type in some alternative text which will appear when the mouse hovers over the image.

/ Insert table
When working with layouts for images and text, it is often easier to insert these into a table.
/ Choose how many rows and columns you would like. The width refers to the Moodle page width.
If you want to hide table borders, change the value to zero, or leave it blank.
For more table options, select the enlarge editor button. Here, you can work more effectively with tables.
The enlarge editor displays extra tools:
/ Table properties: Add captions, cell spacing, frames and borders and styles to your table
/ Row properties: Change the row layout, background, foreground and border colour and styles
/ Insert row before
/ Insert row after
/ Delete row
/ Insert column before
/ Insert column after
/ Delete row
/ Cell properties: The same as row properties, but it will only apply to the selected cell.
/ Insert cell before
/ Insert cell after
/ Merge cells: Selected cells will merge into one.
/ Split cell
/ Split row

To close the enlarge editor, click the button again, and then click on the Save changes button.
