Working in an Arm's Length Body andlooking for a secondment in central government?

As part of its diversity and inclusion strategy, GCS is introducing a rolling programme of secondments in central goverment.

We are inviting expressions of interest from ALB members of GCS to take up a 6 month secondment, working in Cabinet Office, 70 Whitehall, London.

Working in the GCS, as part of GCS Professional Development, your role will involve helping GCS to shape thinking, share knowledge and build an even greater understanding of what it means to be a world-class public service communicator.

The aim of the secondment programme is that by working more closely with the Government Communication Service (GCS), you will learn valuable skills and insights from central government that can be transferred back to your ALB and your workplace.

The GCS in the Cabinet Office works as an integrated team and is looking for people who can demonstrate:

●A keenness to learn more about the GCS; allied to an interest in improving Government and wider public service communications

●The ability to work as part of a nimble, flexible team balancing multiple priorities simultaneously

●A strong track record of delivery in current and previous roles.

Those from a wide range of professional backgrounds are welcome as this is a development opportunity.

Responsibilities

To help develop the GCS as the best government profession by leading and supporting on a wide range of profession projects including:Events;GCS website;International visits;Surveys;Modern Communications Operating Model (MCOM);GCS at Civil Service Live.

Personal specification

We want you, as the ALB secondee to:

  • Be the mouthpiece for ALB communicators to the GCS feeding back views and ideas for improvement on the latest tools, courses and strategies
  • Share best practice and case studies from ALBs to demonstrate the breadth of work, expertise and opportunities across the GCS
  • Input to GCS channels bringing to life the GCS narrative in way that is inclusive of those outside of central Government departments
  • Maintain an ALB contacts database working alongside GCS Loca
  • Audit and feed back on GCS inclusivity to ensure the organisation continues to reflect its diverse audience and membership.
