BITUMINOUS DAMPPROOFING

SPEC WRITER NOTES:

Intended use is for exterior walls where no hydrostatic head occurs or is anticipated, as water percolates through the soil or in cavity spaces to weeps.Clearly identify location on drawings and interface with other waterproofing system with terminology consistent with specification section title.

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1SUMMARY

1.4SUBMITTALS

  1. Submittal Procedures: Section 013323, SHOP DRAWINGS, PRODUCT DATA, AND SAMPLES.
  2. Manufacturer's Literature and Data:
  3. Description of each product.
  4. Application instructions.

1.5DELIVERY

  1. Deliver products in manufacturer's original sealed packaging.
  2. Mark packaging, legibly. Indicate manufacturer's name or brand, type, color, production run number, and manufacture date.
  3. Before installation, return or dispose of products within distorted, damaged, or opened packaging.

1.6STORAGE AND HANDLING

  1. Store products indoors in dry, weathertight //conditioned// facility.
  2. Protect products from damage during handling and construction operations.

1.7WARRANTY

SPEC WRITER NOTE: Always retain construction warranty. FAR includes Contractor's one year labor and material warranty.

  1. Construction Warranty: FAR clause 52.24621, "Warranty of Construction."

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1SYSTEM PERFORMANCE

  1. Control moisture migration through concrete or masonry exterior walls where no hydrostatic head occurs or is anticipated.

2.2PRODUCTS - GENERAL

  1. Provide each product from one manufacturer and from one production run.
  2. Hot Applied Bituminous Dampproofing:
  3. Asphalt: ASTMD449/D449M, Type I.
  4. Cold Applied Bituminous Dampproofing:
  5. Asphalt: ASTMD1227, Type III (spray grade).

2.3ACCESSORIES

  1. Asphalt Saturated Felt: ASTMD226/D226M, Type I, 7kg (15pound).
  2. Protection Course: //ASTMD6506, 3mm (1/8inch) thick, semirigid sheets of fiberglass or mineralreinforcedasphaltic core, pressure laminated between two asphaltsaturated fibrous liners. // Smoothsurfaced roll roofing complying with ASTMD6380/D6380M, Class S, Type III.// Extrudedpolystyrene board insulation, unfaced, ASTMC578, TypeX, 13mm (1/2inch) thick.//

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1PREPARATION

  1. Examine and verify substrate suitability for product installation.
  2. Protect existing construction and completed work from damage.
  3. Clean substrates. Remove contaminants capable of affecting subsequently installed product's performance.
  4. Remove free water; surfaces may remain damp.

3.2INSTALLATION - GENERAL

  1. Install products according to manufacturer's instructions //and approved submittal drawings//.
  2. When manufacturer's instructions deviate from specifications, submit proposed resolution for Contracting Officer’s Representative consideration.

3.3DAMPPROOFING INSTALLATION

  1. Applications:
  2. Apply to surfaces where indicated on drawings.
  3. Apply dampproofing at 1L/sq.m (21/2 gal. per 100sq.ft.), minimum, each coat.
  4. Allow 24 hours drying time between coats.
  5. Adhere protection course to conceal //foundation// dampproofing before backfilling.

3.4PROTECTION

  1. Protect dampproofingand protection course from construction operations.
  2. Repair damage.
