Reporting to / General Manager, MPA
Duties / To be the gateway for communications about the MPA’s work to its members, industry stakeholders and the general public. Specific areas of work include:
Update standard letters and communications, including but not limited to:
-Membership letters
-Annual sponsorship package
-New member welcome packs
Create, maintain and/or develop:
-Website content for the MPA’s four websites, e.g. news stories, photographs, videos, etc., ensuring that content remains relevant and up to date
-New member log-ins and profiles for members’ area of websites
-Databases of press contacts
-Database of member details, with day to day support from the Office Assistant
-Archives of press cuttings
-All social media outlets, seeking to improve uptake
-Photographs of MPA events
-Relationships with other organisations, including participation in the UK Music Comms Group and maintaining regular meetings with sister organisations, such as PRS for Music
Prepare bespoke content and promotional materials, as needed, e.g.
-Press releases, press plans, quotes and speeches
-Invitations and adverts for MPA events, with support from the Events Manager and Office Assistant
-Other physical and digital materials to market the MPA Group of Companies and their services
-Monthly newsletters for each of IMPEL and MPA
Respond to
-Press enquiries
-General enquiries from MPA members and the public
Initiate
-Press opportunities
-New relationshipsand contacts with national, regional and trade press
Lead, manage and/or plan
-The MPA Group of Companies’ marcom strategy, together with the General Manager, CEO and with input from the team
-Weekly Editorial Team Meetings
-Editorial Schedule
-Communications Calendar
Other:
-Provide support to the Chief Executive, General Manager and other staff as necessary in this small office and attempt to help out with their telephone calls and generally in the event of any absenteeism
-Take an interest in what the MPA is doing for its members and keep abreast of developments as much as possible.
-Attend staff meetings and others meetings and events as required
-Represent the MPA at external events as required, some out of office hours.
Skills and Experience / Essential
  • Varied IT & technical skills with the ability to pick up new systems and applications easily. Experience of the below is essential for the role:
  • Wordpress, Mailchimp and Civi CRM
  • Social media and ability to maximise social channels, in particular Facebook and Twitter, as evidenced by an established online presence
  • Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Exceptional writing skills, as evidenced through publicised written material and creation of copy, blogs, social media and/or journalism
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to organise a demanding and varied workload
  • A track record of working quickly and accurately, delivering work within tight deadlines and schedules
Preferable
  • Some basic design skills
  • Videography (filming and editing, e.g. Final Cut Pro or equivalent) and DSLR photography skills
  • Existing industry press and PR contacts and ability to forge new relationships
Those candidates lacking in all required areas of experience should be able to identify those gaps and demonstrate determination and ambition together with a thirst for knowledge. Training can be provided in some areas.
Personal Qualities /
  • Genuine passion for and interest in music, the music industry and music publishing,with previous experience of working at a publishing companyadvantageous
  • A deft turn of phrase and ability to convey complex topics succinctly
  • Ability to plan effective campaigns and evaluate results
  • Uses initiative to proactivelyidentify opportunities beyond immediate tasks and progress matters independently
  • Confident interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with professionals and individuals of all levels
  • Out-going, charismatic team player with ability to forge strong relationships and optimise opportunities to further the message and identity of the MPA Group of Companies
  • Insatiable quest for knowledge
