CULTURE_NATURE green ethics – habitat – environment, curated by Alessandra Coppa and Fortunato D’Amico, is the important side-event which takes place within the 12th International Architecture Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia to be inaugurated on Thursday, August 26th 2010.

From August 27th until November 21st, the Spazio Thetis at the Arsenale Novissimo, which covers over 15,000 sqm between indoor spaces and parkland, will house over 50 architects, artists and international universities. This is a very heterogeneous creative group which through different ideas, techniques and processes sets itself the displaying objective of the Man-Environment-Architecture relationship in the contemporary culture of the third millennium, living rise to projects, installations, artworks and videos

The event is accompanied by interesting meetings involving prominent cultural figures, such as architects, artists, philosophers and filmmakers, who are invited to discuss with the public matters relating to the major environmental changes and the 'culture' of living in relationship with the natural habitat.

The busy programme of scheduled events includes concerts aimed at establishing a relationship between music and architecture in a digression from classical to contemporary.

Fortunato D'Amico claims: “It's the end of an era dominated by oil - Jeremy Rifkin, the most authoritative prophet of the green economy, proclaims. We have entered the era of the third industrial revolution, a time when humanity has already consumed one half of the oil available on the planet and, due to practical and economic needs, is forced to decline its future energy focusing on natural Energy sources. The highlight of this dramatic situation, according to experts, will occur between 2010 and 2020. But before this catastrophic vision of the world, can we still think of saving whatever can be saved? Maybe yes, say the most optimistic analysts and prophets of the sustainable future, provided that we pursue with commitment and all together the objectives set for the reintegration of our lives to the Earth’s natural cycles, respecting the environment and accessing sparingly the resources of our eco system”.

Architecture, landscape, agriculture, energy, design, art and cinema become the protagonists in the various areas of Spazio Thetis, which is being reborn thanks to the plan of German landscape architect Andreas Kipar, who lives in Milan, his adoptive place. Culture_Nature is an exhibition featuring multidisciplinarity, integrated, permeable and open to a panorama of situations in fluid motion.

In fact, the event is a true 'melting pot' of different viewpoints joined together by the thread of nature, environment and Man’s needs.

In this regard, Alessandra Coppa explains: “The works on display have been selected based on the concept of going beyond the concept of the opposition “Culture vs. Nature”. Architecture and art are integrated and relate to concepts of landscape, agriculture, energy and design. "

The organizer and promoter of this great initiative is the Politecnico, i.e. Applied-Science Faculties, of Turin, with the sponsorship of the City of Turin, the Municipality of Cossano Canavese and the European Commission Representation in Milan.

The catalogue with the bilingual texts by the curators and institutional personalities is published by Skira.
