For years, we have been praying about ONLINE GIVING and we are excited to let you know that you can now give to ESD/CSCD Inc. through our website. This new, secure giving system will save you the postage and hassle of mailing checks to the school, and will allow us to quickly receive donations. Additionally, since we have no office worker, your gifts through e-giving will save our principal time in the office and driving to the bank.
Through our new online giving page, you have the option to give with credit card or with an automatic transfer from your checking account, and we are grateful for both ways. Either way that you decide to give, we thank you sincerely for putting your beliefs into action and showing love to these children who are desperately in need of it. SPECIAL NOTE to our regular monthly supporters: when you give through automatic checking account transfers, there is no charge levied against the donation (as there is with credit card donations), so your donation arrives totally to the CSCD Inc. account to help ESD.

God’s Amazing Guidancein the experience of one visiting worker: Somehow, I ended up at a deaf school in Puerto Rico…which is super funny because I set out to find a place to volunteerwhere I could work on speaking Spanish which has been my desire for years. After receiving travel vouchers through a mix up during previous travels, I decided to use some of the vouchers to do a short term mission visit somewhere in Puerto Rico which I felt was where God was leading.
Since I didn’t know anyone in Puerto Rico, I got online and started searching for missionaries and ministries on the island. (Editor’s Note: please use GOODSEARCH and earn money for ESD with your searches!)I found four that lookedpromising and sent out an email to each, introducing myself, listing my areas ofexperience and letting them know that I was looking for a place to volunteer for twoweeks and hopefully be a blessing.
So, this is where the God clearly took things out of my hands! Imagine my surprisewhen I received the same message from all 4 ministries/missionaries. It wentsomething like this: “If you want to come work with us for a couple weeks that isfine. However, there is a school in Luquillo that you should contact because I thinkyou might be a good fit there.” After the first message, I checked out the website forESD and decided this probably wasn’t where I should go, since I didn’t know evenone word of sign language. However, after having the message repeated four timesin a row, I realized that I was being directed in a new way. God has opened everydoor for me to come to the school, and even provided a travel partner and fellowvolunteer to come with me….and yes, she does know ASL. He also prepared methrough my job, where I manage the finances and office for a Christiannon-profit ministry, to know how to get online giving set up for the school during myvisit.
I’mso thankful that I’ve had the blessing of getting know the dedicated workers andvolunteers at CSCD Inc. It is awe inspiring to get to hear aboutchildren brought here who act and behave literally like animals because althoughthey were born with wonderfully intelligent minds, they have never been given anyway to communicate in their soundless world and have been treated as if they aredysfunctional, so they are frustrated and angry! Now we see them andthey are showing their intelligence and planning for wonderfulfutures....watching these children sign worship songs during morning chapel withpure joy on their faces has brought tears to my eyes repeatedly. What an incrediblemission field, to be the first to teach a child how to communicate in any languageand then use that language to tell them about the love of God for them! Embracing the new– Online donations. New workers. New students. A new name for the ministry. So many changes in recent years. But in it all, we are seeing God’s care and guidance. As we prepare the signs for the front of the school with the name Christian School and Chapel for the Deaf, Inc.we are prayerful about this change. Clearly stating that we are not associated with the Evangelical United church that is popular here on the island nor just another private school but that we are dedicated to teaching the Gospel and discipling the Deaf and reaching out to the families of our students and the community at large is important to our mission. Pray with us that the mission of the ministry – nurturing Deaf children to live and think Biblically – would continue to expand into the Deaf community around us. Pray that we would both find them and reach them for Christ.
