TherolesitswithintheITdepartmentatRoyalHolloway,UniversityofLondon.The IT department is responsible for the delivery and support of all aspects of Information Technology within the University. The department is responsible for all the operational aspects of IT including service desk, desktop support, network, telecommunications and server infrastructure; the development, implementation, integration and support of applications; and delivering IT projects and change. Thepost holder will play a significant role in themanagementofchangeprojectsandimprovementstoinstitution-wideprocessesinsupportofstrategicobjectivesandprovideevidenceandinsightstosupportstrategicdecisionmaking.

Agraduateorequivalent,thesuccessfulcandidatewillhaveexperienceofprojectdelivery,and experienceof workingina structuredproject framework would bean advantage. Goodcommunicationskillsandtheabilitytodevelopeffectiveworkingrelationshipswithcolleagues atall levelsacrosstheinstitution willbeessential.

There are two priorities for the is role the; the support of the Executive IT board, and the support of key strategic projects.

With regards to supporting the Executive IT board, responsibilitiesareto:

  1. Provide support to the IT Senior Management Team (IT SMT) by managing projects and strategic initiatives.
  2. Provide support to the IT SMT to help manage the formal planning and request fulfilment process.
  3. Service projectandcommitteemeetingsby providing progress reporting, and compiling and presenting updates on: key project milestones, service metrics, people and resourcing, performance and budgets.
  4. Own and deliver the IT departments communications plan, highlighting individual and project success and department wide updates.
  5. Manage meeting logistics, agenda formation and minute taking
  6. Promote sound project management standards and change management support practices across the College and provide advice on IT’s Project Management Framework.
  7. Developeffectiveinternalandexternalworkingrelationshipsandcross-teamworkingbetweenITandothersectionsofprofessionalservicesand academicdepartments.

With regardsto supportingand managing strategicprojects,responsibilitiesareto:

1.Contributetothepreparationofbusinesscases,thisincludesthecreationofappropriatedocumentationforsubmissiontothe IT and University’sgovernanceprocessthat providesan appropriatelevelof detailto enablethe approvalprocess

2.Designappropriateprojectplans;incorporatingdependencies,acknowledgingassumptionsandbuildingincontingencyusingthe IT and University’sprojectmanagementmethodologies

3.Engage with relevantstakeholders inthe projectplanning processas appropriate

4.Establishappropriateprogressreportingschedulesandpreparesprogressreportsforseniormanagementand ProjectBoards

5.Identifyandmanageproject risksand issues;escalating where necessary

6.Providereportsandpresentationsonprogressandensuringtheyarewellcommunicated to all stakeholders

7.Conductresearch as requested to supportinitiativesandprojects;this will include work with the dataanalysts in the teamtogatherevidence to supportstrategicdecisionmaking.

8.Monitor and adjustprojectplans as projectsevolve

9.Develop,manageandmonitorprojectbudgetsinaccordancewithUniversityprocedures;providing financial reportsasnecessary

10.Identifypostprojectimplementationsupportstructuresand training requirements

11.AnyotherdutiesasrequiredbythelinemanagerorHeadofDepartmentthatarecommensuratewiththegrade.
