FSU Football Players Ball Out

by: Rai’quan Ruth

FSU had 30 players to get suspended for not spending their school money only on books.

So, to start off the running back say’s that he and some team mates bought books and then they had left over money and the store Clerk said for them to spend the money because they would not get the money back. So they bought pencils, binders, and electronic with the left over money.

“I decided to ask a few of our students about this, and this is what they had to say.”

“He think it’s stupid because the kids should be able to spend their money however they want” -Malcolm Eilane

“It’s is stupid because they brought school item for themselves so they should get a different consequence”-Brandon Miller

College and Professional Soccer

My name is Mariam Roman Marin and I will cover college and professional Soccer. I will be talking about what goes around the world, and in different areas that have to do with soccer.

Megan Rapinoe Joins Forces with Colin Kaepernick

By Mariam Roman

Before I get to the real meat of the story, here is the backstory. The National Anthem contains verses that some consider to be racist. “No refuge could save the hireling and slave,” is one of the verses that stand out. It talks about how people of color were slaves during a terrible past that no one would like to remember.

Megan Rapinoe agreed with Mr. Kaepernick, a quarterback for the 49er’s, because she also felt like the US National anthem oppressed people of color. Many people do not think the national anthem is racist because the interpretation is different for others. What side do you choose? Let us know?

College or Nah?

By Cecilia Okafor

Welcome to the Lifestyle column. My name is Cecilia Okafor and I am one of the writers for this column. It is my hope that while reading this column I give you new perspectives on college.

Why do we need a college degree?

College is a great opportunity to further your education. Some would ask, “What is the purpose of college?” The Pew Research Center interviewed Americans over the age of 18. 47% said that the main purpose of a college education is to teach work related skills and knowledge, 39% said that college is an opportunity for students to grow personally and intellectually, and 12% said the time spent in college should be dedicated to both pursuits.

What impact can college have on your lifestyle?

A college degree increases your depth of employment. The Pew Charitable Trust indicated that people who received their associate and bachelor degree were more likely to get jobs. Also, find new jobs in economic recessions. Research shows that obtaining a college degree increases your potential for financial stability. BLS noted that weekly median pay for a person with a high school diploma was drastically lower than those at the associate and bachelor level. College degrees can also assist with your choice of jobs. The average American with a high school diploma typically works various fast food jobs, retail work, postal services, or custodial jobs. Having a college degree can assist in finding better jobs that suit your desired career, and are higher paying.

How can college change people?

Attending college, whether it be living on campus or not, may be a big adjustment. Students can get a chance to grow socially and intellectually. College provide students the exposure to a diverse group of people that increase cultural awareness and appreciation. College can also groom students in the profession that they are majoring in. Students will walk away with valuable skills they will use for their personal and professional career. I spoke with Ja’Nia Barber, an 11th grader at Winston Salem Preparatory Academy, on her take on college. “I feel that college is a great opportunity to help people prepare in the career they want to go in.” I asked her what she thought were the advantages and disadvantages of attending college, and not attending college. Ja’Nia stated, “If youdecide to go to college, you’ll have a better opportunity in being successful.” I also spoke with Nadia Jenkins an 11th grade student at Winston Salem Preparatory Academy about how she felt about college. “I feel that college is a great way to get an education after high school.” She also stated that, “college allows for bigger opportunities in the work field.”

How do I feel?

I feel that college is very important because furthering your education will certainly benefit you in the future. Going to college allows you to have opportunities in the work force, and teaches responsibility. You’ll get a new experience living on campus, and interacting with a diverse group of people. With the help of an advisor, you’ll get to design your schedule, and choose a major of your choice. I think the biggest advantage of attending college is that it gives one great tools that can be used in the future. The biggest disadvantage concerning college is that there is a large amount of money required to finance college. This can cause a great deal of stress for some people. I would like to attend college right after I graduate from high school. My goal is to major in journalism or communication.

Are High School Relationships Worth It?

By: Nijayuana Gadson

Wassup y’all! It’s your girl Ni and I’m here to talk to you about relationships. You know it is“cuffing” season now! So, keep calm and read this article.

For starters, you need to know that relationships are a delicate topic with any age group. However, it is during the high school years that relationships are often overlooked and deemed to not be important. Studies show that the minds of adolescents are not fully developed and can’t know what is or isn’t beneficial in terms of romanticism. But Ni’s study states: We know what we know and we do what we do!! Speaking out of experience, I am not certain of whether high school relationships are worth it or not. However, it is a question that we all have. Is a high school relationship honestly worth it? Many individuals who have never experienced a high school relationship, ends up finding themselves debating against whether or not they should take the time to have something serious or just explore. Studies show that most of the time, high school relationships do not last. But Ni’s study show, We Grown!! Although these relationships may not last, it doesn’t mean we all will not learn some valuable lessons from them. This week I went around the school, and asked many of you how you all felt about relationships in high school. La’ Niya Reid, a senior, stated: “Yes I do think relationships in high school are worth it. For one, you learn from your mistakes. It may workout or it may not. But at the same time, once you get to college you are going to know what to settle for and what not to settle for”. Chaz Gwyn, a sophomore, stated: “Yes I do think relationships in high school are worth it. It helps you realize what type of person you would like to date when you are older.” Justice Goodloe, a junior, also stated: “Yes I do think relationships in high school are worth it. Even though you might not date many people, until you find the one girl that you love and care about. That shows you the type of person you would want to be with when you're older.”

These are just a few of the responses that I received through interviewing. Several of you were willing to voice your opinion as well!

Now for those of you who have never had a boyfriend or girlfriend. Here are some tips on trying to get there. For starters, to all my gentlemen, if you want to impress the girl you like without making her feel awkward, try telling her she looks nice today. Even though you think she looks nice every day. It’s always the thought that counts.

For my ladies, if you see a guy you like walking down the hallway, say “Hey!” to him. You should try to become his friend. Don’t ever try to be something you are not to try to impress him[BSL2] .Remember to always be yourself no matter what.

My final tip of the day, for both my ladies and gents, is that wanting a girlfriend or boyfriend is a want not a need! Always remember school work comes first. You should always stay focused. Don’t ever let a boy or girl affect, your ability to learn.

Just remember to stay in school and look cute for no apparent reason. Talk to you later!!

Quote of the month “Every tall person needs a short person”.

Style Wave

This is Oceann with your monthly fashion update. The fall weather is here! Has there been days were you been through not knowing what to wear in the morning? Well, with the fall weather coming up here are some ideas to help you look glamorous for the fall weather!

Autumn Trends to Try

The beginning of fall is here and the temperature will soon drop. Before it drops dramatically you still can wear your cute dresses and tops.

There’s a lot of new styles coming in for the autumn. For a day when you may want to get extra dressed up, a cute loose or body-con dress with some 2 to 3in chunky heeled booties or gladiator flats will do. As we know, not everyone is the dress and heels type. So, if you’re not then even going with jeans and a cute blouse, shirt with heels or even regular mid-calf or knee high boots will do for a casual day. Other trendy items to wear is trench coats, the flare pants, long pleated skirts (looks like the old poodle skirts), casual long sleeve shift dresses, body/jumpsuits, long or short knit sweaters, crepe sailor pants, knee high boots, booties, chunky heels, closed toed flat, long sleeve crop top, sweater crop tops. Another important thing in clothing is patterns. Pattern pants or dress with a solid top or shoe is a nice match up, as long as you don’t match up too many crazy patterns that throws off the outfit. Accessories are also big on outfits. Add a scarf, purse, a nice cardigan or even a knit headband to compliment your outfit. Match up some of these things and get a cute fall outfit.
