Duties:

DirectServices

  • MaintainbreastfeedingsupportskillsincludingcurrentIBCLCandinsurancestatus.
  • Providelactationsupport·services forWICandpeercounselingclients.
  • Referparticipants/clientstoappropriatecommunityresourcesasneeded.
  • Provideone-on-oneserviceformotherandbaby
  • Ensureaccuratedocumentationofservicesandsharedocumentationwithproviderswhile complyingwithconfidentialitystandards.
  • DevelopandmaintainproficiencyinalldatabasesusedinincludingISISandthePCdatabaseprogram,onceimplemented.
  • IssuebreastpumpsforWICandPCClientsincludingpumploandatabasedocumentation.
  • AcceptreferralsfromWICstaffandpeercounselorsrequiringIBCLCintervention.
  • Providecounselingtohighriskpumpclientssuchasmothersofpreemies.
  • Conductprenatal/breastfeedinggclasses,providinginputforthedevelopmentofnewclasses.
  • Communicatedirectlywithhealthcareproviderabouthighriskcases.
  • Enrollmother/babyintoWICduringthebalanceofthegrantyear2011

PCTechnicalSupport

  • Trainnewpeercounselorsinprovidingappropriateinformationtoclients.
  • ProvideTechnicaloversightforPeerCounselorsensuringtheyareprovidinglactationinformationthatistechnicallycorrectandareworkingwithinthescopeoftheir responsibilities.
  • MonitorPCcontactsincludingphone,e-mail,in-personandgroup. AlsomonitorPCdocumentationinPCdatabase(onceimplemented). LevelofmonitoringadjustedtoskilllevelofPeerCounselor.
  • BeavailableduringeachpeercounselinggroupsessiontoansweranyquestionsfromPCs andparticipants.
  • Developabreastfeedingtopiceachmonthforpeercounselinggroupmeetings.
  • HoldmonthlymeetingswithpeercounselorsandWICstafftodiscussanddemonstratebreastfeedingtopicof themonth,otherbreastfeedingeducation,andothercounselingissues.
  • AssistwithmonthlyPCmeetingsandin-servicetrainings.
  • ProvidethePeerCounselorProgramSupervisorwithinputforpeercounselingevaluations.

CommunityWork

  • Participateinbreastfeedingoutreachactivities(includingWorldBreastfeedingMonthActivitieseveryAugust)andserveasabreastfeedingadvocatepromotingpositivemediarelations.

Staffeducationandsupport

  • AttendWICstaffmeetingsandcompleteWIC-requiredtrainings.

Programplanning

  • ProvidebreastfeedingtechnicaltrainingtoWICstaffatmonthlymeetingsasneeded.
  • Performotherdutiesasrequestedby Program

Notice of Employment Status for the PSE position:

The PSE is an At-Will position. This PSE position is paid on an hourly basis only for time worked. Payment for services rendered will only be made by direct deposit using the procedures developed by the Department of Finance. The PSE position works only as needed and there is no guarantee of any minimum hours worked within any pay period. Anticipated length of employment is unknown. Performance and Conduct Standards are outlined in the Health Services Agency new hire packet given to the employee on the first day of work. The WIC Peer Counselor position falls under the range 401 and this employee will be at Step A. Hourly pay is $27.93.
