Job Posting – Church Organist
Purpose: The Presbyterian Church of Western Springs (PCUSA) is a traditional Christian worshipping congregation in the western suburbs of Chicago with an active music program. We are looking for a highly-skilled organist/pianist to accompany our worship and choirs.
Hours 10 hours per week on average
Pay Commensurate with experience/education
Schedule Available for worship services with extra services during Christmas and
Easter. (There are 5 vacation weeks throughout the year)
Reports to The Director of Music, with close working relationships with the pastors,
the worship committee, and the musicians of our church
Begins Position available November 26, 2012
Organ: 1998 Ahlborn-Galanti Chronicler three manual with midi
Duties
· Play organ/piano for all worship services (Sunday 9:30 AM and all special worship services)
· Accompany adult choir at Thursday evening rehearsals and Sunday worship with a rehearsal before the service (The choir sings 2-3 Sundays per month and is not active during summer)
· Accompany soloists and ensembles as needed
· Select and play seasonally appropriate prelude and postlude music
· Coordinate rehearsals with musicians for special music
· Play for weddings and funerals as available
· Attend occasional staff meetings
· Arrange for regular maintenance of the organ and pianos Qualifications
· Experience playing the organ with a knowledge of the mechanics of the instrument and standard organ repertoire
· Proficient in accompanying congregational singing in worship
· Familiarity with a traditional style of Christian worship and liturgies
· Comfortable playing a wide variety of musical styles
· Experienced in accompanying choirs
· Solid communication and collaborative skills in order to coordinate with the Pastor, Director of Music, solo musicians, and choir members
· Sense of humor and versatility a plus
