Why Are You Here?

August 10, 2017

Dale & Jeannie Daly

If you are like most, there have been at least a few times you’ve asked yourself this question. Why am I here? What is it I’m to be doing that will truly be lasting when my life is over? Questions such as, “Why was I born? Did my dad and mom really discuss the issue of having and raising a baby to childhood, or, was I a surprise to everyone? Why have I moved from place to place, searching for happiness, only to find that soon I was moving on to another ‘strange’ place, still searching for my answer?

In reading the Word for my answer I read again the words of Moses recorded in Deuteronomy chapter 10, and I’m fully convinced that I received the answer to my own personal quest for information. Here’s what was given by Moses that was not just for the Israelites, but for you and me as well. Deuteronomy 10:12 (NLT) “And now…what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires you to fear Him, to live according to His will, to love and worship Him with all your heart and soul, and to obey the Lord’s command and laws that I am giving you today for your own good.” That’s pretty plain, would you not agree!

What is hidden in that verse that gives greater understanding to the question of today’s CRA Moment as to why are we here? Allow me to share this as a way of expressing what takes place most every morning as I begin the new day. After reading one or two of my favorite devotionals, I then read a passage from either, or both the Old as well as the New Testament. Following that is a time of prayer (basic, simple, nothing fancy, communication) as I share my thoughts. My words are pretty simple as I just talk to God as if He was my best friend sitting across from me in a room. The last number of years that sharing has not been to ask Him for much of anything, rather, to just thank Him for all He has provided as well as all He has promised by way of His Word. Sometimes that list may be for as many as 30, 40, or even more of His blessings! No matter the number, the point is to be grateful for all He has provided, and more and more that list is seemingly endless.

Here's a few things I thank Him for: I thank Him that He is simply amazing in all His ways! I thank Him that He has promised in His Word He has a specific purpose and plan for my life! I thank Him for providing us a home He picked out that we have promised to take care of to the best of our ability! I thank Him for the cars we have to drive! I thank Him for the thunder that rumbles from the sky and the beauty of the lighting, and sunsets that only He could orchestrate! I thank Him for the clear, pure, fresh rain that waters the trees, the grass, and provides drink for the creatures He created, as well as for my own drinking. I thank Him for His greatness, His mercy, His loving kindness, His watching over us during the course of the entire night! I thank Him for safety as we go about ours and His business during the day! And I thank Him that we have friends such as you!

I’ve learned that if I will do this repeatedly during the course of a day, the rest of the words Moses spoke will fall in line. Those words are, “…to fear (reverence) Him, to live according to His will, to love and worship Him with all your heart and soul, and to obey the Lord’s command and laws that I (Moses) am giving you today for your own good.”

When I consider all the Lord has, and is doing for me, how could I do something to hurt or disappoint the very One who feeds and takes care of me in so many, many ways! It would be impossible! It’s for those and other reasons I know why I am here! And so are you! He wants you to know that He’s here for you, and that He cares about the tinniest detail of your life, and that you are greatly loved by Him who gave His life as if you were the only person on the face of planet earth!

Blessings,

Psalm 20:7
