Description of Classes
Pleasure Driving Turnout
A class where entries are judged primarily on performance and quality of turnout. Shown both ways of ring at walk, slow trot, working trot and strong trot. To stand quietly and rein back if asked. Judged 70% on condition, fit and appropriateness of harness and vehicle, neatness and appropriateness of attire and overall impression & 30% on performance and way of going. Ribbons to 5th place in each class.
Pleasure Driving Working
A class where entries are judged primarily on suitability of equine to provide a pleasant drive. Shown both ways of ring at walk, slow trot, working trot and strong trot. To stand quietly on the rail and in line and to rein back. May be chosen for individual work. Judged 70% on equine performance, manners and way of going, 20% on condition and fit of harness & 10% on neatness of attire. Ribbons to 5th in each division.
Pleasure Driving Reinsmanship
Each competitor will do the test individually and will be given a score sheet with comments at the awards banquet. The test will be available one month prior to the competition and will be posted on TCCA’s website. A one or two handed method of driving is acceptable. The driver should be relaxed and seated comfortably with the elbows and arms close to the body and using an allowing, steady hand that allows consistent feel of the horse’s mouth. Ribbons to 5th in each class.
Cones F & O (Fault and Out)
A times course to be driven over a course of numbered obstacles consisting of cones and balls, not more than 10 obstacles. Pass through the start and do all obstacles in order, until the allowed time expires or until a ball is dislodged or disobedience occurs. If time still remains and all obstacles have been cleared, then restart at number 1 and follow obstacles in order again until the time expires, a disobedience occurs or a ball is dislodged. The start obstacle only needs to be driven once at the beginning of the course. Two points are given for each obstacle cleared prior to the whistle sounding. When the whistle sounds proceed to the next obstacle and when the vehicle’s rear axle clears this obstacle the time is taken. If the final obstacle is cleared cleanly the driver is given one additional point to add to the accumulated score. A disobedience is a refusal, run-out, circle or break to canter of more than three steps. Going off course or dislodging the start marker results in elimination.
Placings are determined firstly by number of points and then by time. Ribbons to 5th place in each division.

Description of Classes (cont’d)
Progressive Cones Course
An obstacle course driven at a trot over 6 numbered obstacles with the following clearances: #1-20”, #2- 16”, #3-12”, #4-8”, #5-4” and #6-2”. After passing through the start line the entry proceeds through each obstacle in order until finishing the course or dislodging an obstacle. Time recorded when rear axle clears the last obstacle or an obstacle is dislodged. Ribbons to 5th place in each division.
Concours d’Eelegance
Competitors do not need to enter this class. All competitors are eligible. Award will be presented at the banquet to the competitor that is deemed to be the most artistically interesting to our guest “Artist Judge”, one who has no knowledge of carriage driving.
Drive & Ride
Open to all competitors (except tenderfoot A-green equine) at no additional cost. In Harness: to be shown to a suitable vehicle both ways at a walk, slow trot, working trot and strong trot. To stand quietly and rein back. The judge will direct when the changeover to the ride section will occur. Two helpers will be allowed to assist with the changeover. Under saddle: to be shown to a suitable vehicle both ways at a walk, trot and canter. To stand quietly and rein back. Judged 50% on performance, manners, way of going and suitability in harness and 50% on performance, manners and way of going under saddle. Ribbons to 5th place.
Red Light / Green Light Class
This class is designed to encourage young people to participate in carriage driving. Any driver/animal combination may be used but the number must be that of the junior competitor associated with it. The same driver/animal combination may be used more than once. The driver must be a member of TCCA and hold suitable insurance. The junior must wear a helmet and sit in the vehicle as the passenger. The junior passenger should walk the cones class with the driver and during the class direct the driver which way to go and count out the obstacles sequentially (with no help from the driver) until all obstacles are driven once. There will be four stop signs along the course that the junior must instruct the driver to stop at. At the stop sign the junior will be asked question regarding driving. If the answer is correct the team immediately proceeds ahead to the next obstacle. If the answer is incorrect then the team must wait out a ten second penalty before proceeding to the next obstacle. The course that will be used for this class is the Fault and Out Obstacle course. The winner is determined by taking the highest score in the fastest time. A TCCA token will be given to all competitors.
