The CAD Specifications Specialist plays a very important role in the overall scheme of marketing a product that meets our customer’s requirements. As a result, the CAD Specifications Specialist is responsible for defining, developing, and maintaining product specifications for all the items we have listed in our database. In addition, the position is also required to assist with preparation and revision of product drawing requests utilizing CAD software programs as well as working on special projects involving quality and data management. CAD Specifications Specialist is critical not only in the eyes of our customers but also in dealing with our vendors. CAD Specifications Specialist can affect a sale as well as the product cost. They need to be complete as well as being correct. In turn, Wheaton Industries must be able to provide vendors with a complete set of specifications so that our vendors are able to fulfill their requirements in costing and supplying a product that is not only functional but represents the highest degree of quality. With that being the case, the CAD Specifications Specialist as part of the Engineering Records group, will work extensively in designing, developing and maintaining including revisions or changes to product specifications for all the items we have and will list in our data base. This individual will be responsible for assuring that our product specifications are clear, concise, and correct so that they can be effectively communicated either to our vendors or to customer’s details of the specifications that include product specs. In addition, this individual will provide services to Quality and serve as the back-up to the Master Data Coordinator.

To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent, 2 yr. degree or better desirable
  • One to Four (4) years of related experience and/or training

Just as important as your experience and skills will be the following characteristics and competencies:

  • Analytical and computer skills required such as SAP, MS Office, SolidWorks and CAD and blueprint knowledge.
  • Ability to effectively present and communicate information as well as respond to questions from internal or external customers.
  • Understanding the impact of new products as they relate to making the business plan.
  • Understanding the importance of meeting internal and external customer expectations as it relates to proper documentation and/or drawings.

The Role:

Reporting to the Engineering Services Manager the main activities & results will include:

  • Effectively develops, revise and maintains product specifications for all products listed in our data base. This includes the development of new items, and revisions or changes to existing items as well as maintaining a product data base.
  • Assist Engineering Records with the preparation and drawing of new product drawings or revisions with existing ones utilizing CAD and or SolidWorks.
  • Work with Engineering Records and Quality groups to help assure that all documentation is managed based on ISO guidelines.
  • Work with responsible departments to help assure all documentation, including prints and specifications meet the highest standards set forth by Wheaton Industries.
  • Assure that all prints, and specifications meet our internal, and external customer requirements.
  • Be able to effectively communicate technical concepts regarding specifications to a broad range of internal and external clients, which may include Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Pricing, Technical Service, Product Managers, vendors, customers etc.
  • Work with Quality on special projects related to product quality, on site warehouse and vendor audits, product inspections, customer audits, product weight project etc. at all Wheaton facility sites.
  • Works as a back-up to the Master Data Coordinator in gathering information, costs etc. and entering same into the Master Data file in SAP.
  • Understands and complies with all elements of the Wheaton Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Operates all equipment in a safe and professional manner, while completing tasks on a timely basis.
  • Keeps work area clean and well organized and assists in keeping entire facility in the same condition.
  • Works within the guidelines of ISO and EHS..
  • Other duties as assigned.
