AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE EPWORTH CHILDREN’S HOMEOF COLUMBIA ON THE MOST RECENT ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF ITS STUDENTS, EIGHTYFIVE PERCENT OF WHOM WERE NAMED TO ITS FALL 2013 HONOR ROLL, AND TO COMMEND THE FACULTY AND STUDENTS FOR THEIR HARD WORK AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the tradition of offering a quality education and a nurturing environment at Epworth Children’s Home continues, as was recently evidenced by a wealth of academic success among its students, eightyfive percent of whom made the honor roll for the Fall 2013 semester; and

Whereas, before achieving that amazing result, the 20122013 school year also found Epworth’s studentsperforming well. All Epworth seniors in the Class of 2013 graduated andwere accepted into institutions of higher learning; seventysix percent of Epworth’s studentshad no failing grades; ninetyseven percent had two or fewer behavior referrals; and fifty percent earned Epworth Academic Incentive; and

Whereas, in order to achieve its enviable academic performance, Epworth has focusedon providing quality instruction to develop fundamental learning skills; and

Whereas, as a part of the greater Columbia community and this great State for more than one hundred sixteen years, this venerable ministry of the United Methodist Churchhas provided loving, compassionate, and nurturing care to generations of South Carolina’s most vulnerable children while raising them to be successful and contributing adults; and

Whereas, the House, proud of Epworth’s fine academic accomplishments, takes great pleasure in saluting the institution’s studentsfor the diligent study that yielded such excellent fruit. The members look forward to hearing of similar achievements on the part of Epworth’s students in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

Thatthe members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Epworth Children’s Homeof Columbia on the most recent academic achievements of its students, eightyfive percent of whom were named to its fall 2013 honor roll, and to commend the faculty and students for their hard work and accomplishments.
