What to study to prepare for math semester exam!!!

Part I

  1. Know how to evaluate an expression?
  2. Write an expression that represents the perimeter of the triangle.
  3. Apply the Distributive Property. (EE1)
  4. Write an inequality statement.
  5. Write an algebraic expression. (EE2)
  6. Solve an equation like 10k - 50 = 6k – 100 (EE3)
  7. Combine 3 expressions and solve for x. (See blue study guide).

Example: x 2x+5 4x -7 Set = to 100

x + 2x+ 5 + 4x -7 = 7x - 2 = 100 7x = 98 x = 14

  1. Calculate age based off of expressions. (EE4a)
  2. Calculate cost of rental car. (EE4a)
  1. Calculate number of DVD’s purchased after paying the shipping

cost. (EE4a)

  1. Find the solution to equations like 5x + 5 = 25

12. Write expressions to represent the age of a student.

13. Find the solution to equations that have fractions like 1/4x + 2 = 5.

14. Evaluate algebraic expressions. Combine like terms. Select the correct answers or solutions.

15. A student made an error showing his work with the expression:

-(6x – 8 + 10x). Find the error and give a correct solution.

-6x + 8 - 10x

-16x +8 final solution

16. Ella brought a bag of Skittles to class and divided them equally among her 10 friends. Each of her friends received 12 Skittles. Which equation would be used to determine the number of Skittles (s) in the original bag? s ÷ 10 = 12 or s = 10 x 12

Part II (#17-24 Review December Warm-up Charts)

17. Calculate the cost of individual tickets or find the unit rate.

18. Calculate the miles per gallon.

19. Calculate number of items made from ¾ yards of materials by dividing.

20. Calculate the hourly rate for 4 individuals and compare the data to determine who is paid the most money per hour.

21. Calculate the sale price.

22. Calculate tip.

23. Calculate the test score percentage based on number of items correct. Set up the ratio and then find the decimal or percentage.

24. Determine correct scale size for a drawing.

25. Add fractions. (Unit 1 Review) #25-39

26. Calculate difference between two extreme temperatures.

Remember that difference or absolute values are a positive number or value.

27. Convert a fraction to a decimal value.

28. Calculate a free throw percentage.

29. Simplify expressions like: 20.62 + (10.5 - 25.87)

30. Know the additive inverse.

31. Evaluate -64/y for y = -8. -64/-8 = +8

32. If given the current temperature, calculate or determine a new temperature based on a stated temperature change.

33. Solve expressions like -18.98 - (-16.7). (NS1) -18.98 + 16.7 =

34. Simplify expressions like : 68 - (40 - 23) + 110

35. Determine new locations or positions based off of information provided below ground or underwater.

39. Determine the opposite position on the globe. (These cannot be negative values.)

40. Be able to solve equations and inequalities like

6x – 2 = 20. and 10 + 5x > 40
