Chapter II: Characteristics

Work Setting:

Pediatricians work inside like an office, clinics, examining rooms and hospitals, either as a doctor or administrator. They run community health programs, they teach at medical schools. Their work environment has to deal with kids crying, yelling parents, stuffed animals, sick children, and can be very stressful if you are not really into the job working with children. Most pediatricians would rather work in an office or in a clinic rather than hospitals because it’s such a big place many people don’t want to go in and wait for hours, so most people end up going a family clinic. Where I understand that I will have the freedom to make decisions, have contact with others and exposed to disease or infections, and I know that working in an office I will most likely answer telephones, deal with external customers and have face to face discussions with your patients.

Tasks and Duties:

Pediatricians have many task and duties they have to follow like for example they have to look after children regularly to assess their growth and development, check patients conditions and programs also give treatment as necessary, they have to prepare reports for management of birth, death, and injured body parts and systems, they treat children with minor illness, chronic health problems and growth/development concerns. The most important task is to prescribe treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination and other medical care to treat or prevent sickness, diseases or injury in infants and children.

Employment Opportunities:

Being a Pediatrician you can work full-time or either part-time but part-time jobs have become attractive in years as Pediatricians look to balance work and family together. In part-time reports greater level of satisfaction than full-time because they got to do the job they love and also have time to spend with their family. For part-timers they are happier with the hours they work, than a full-timer. Pediatricians also have a highly flexible work time in this field because they sometimes have to stay hour’s late dealing with patients, like delivering babies or helping the lady who’s having to baby to get ready if she’s delivering the next morning, helping kids when they’re sick coming in the middle of the night or just staying late because you have paper work to do to catch up with or to get ready for on the next morning. And when they do go home sometimes in the middle of the night they can get a call in from work and they have to return to work early than usual.

Chapter III: Requirements

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements a pediatrician should have are to use their hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools, or controls. they must be able to stand for a long period of time while checking a patient, should speak clearly so listeners can understand what is being told, they should be able to hold their arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm, they should also see objects that are less than a few feet away, last but not least they should be able to understand the speech of their patients and make quick prease adjustments to machine controls.

Strengths and Aptitudes

My strengths are Active listening, giving my full attention to what other people are saying and taking time to understand. Reading Comprehension, understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. I’m good at Active learning, understanding the implications of new information. Speaking, talking to others to convey information effectively. I’m also good with Coordination, adjusting actions in relation to others’ actions. Instructing, teaching others how to do something. And I know inductive reasoning, the ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions. But, on the other hand the things I need to improve is my social perceptiveness, being aware of other’s reaction and understanding why they react as if they do, and last but not least science, using scientific rules and methods to solve problems.

Training

Students spend the first two years of medical school in labs and in classes. And in those classes and labs they attended they are learning to take medical histories, examine patients, and diagnose illness though rotations in internal medicine , they had to learn to practice with families, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry and surgery. They gain experience in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses. And you have to complete 3 years of training. Doing your internships and residency years, while still learning you are not really in school and are getting paid for your work. You could apply for an accelerated college (medical program) and that can compress those eight year of school into just six or seven years. Four years of college and you can go to any university as long as you complete the classes that should be completed to be a pediatrician or in order to move to the next thing to reach this career.

Chapter IV: Employment Outlook

The place I want to live is Tallahassee, Florida in that state there are jobs available for me to go work in with a salary of maybe109, 177 to 180,600 a year.

Predicted Changes

There have been pediatricians since 1990. This prediction could provide both opportunity and needs for practitioners to identify areas of maternal concern that might guide expansion of marketable physician services. Predictions that are made in this career are the amount of people that would want to be a pediatrician, the amount of pediatricians that will want to work for themselves instead of working for other businesses, and how many hours they will be working, which will probably more hours especially if the environment gets worst and you will need money to provide for their family. And the more babies that are being made the more work a pediatrician will have. Because back then people weren’t as many babies as people are having now a days and probably in the future.
