Job title: Social Inclusion Manager

Job Purpose:

Responsible for the coordination, planning, development and measurement of Tapestry’s Making Connections social inclusion activities including telephone support, home visits, Pub Clubs and Making Connections Clubs.

Reports to: Head of Prevention and Support

Responsible for: Social Inclusion Officer X 2, Social Inclusion Administrator, sessional workers and circa 50 volunteers

1 Duties and key responsibilities


Managing Staff and Volunteers

·  Recruitment of staff

·  Responsible for staff and volunteer performance, including appraisals and 1-2-1’s, adhering to Tapestry management culture and policy

·  Developing and supporting staff and volunteers, including training when needed

·  Ensure staff and volunteers are properly trained in issues including safeguarding, wheelchair training and boundaries

·  Resolving staffing issues

·  Organising and holding staff and volunteer meetings

·  Working with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure sufficient and appropriate volunteers available

Planning, Monitoring and Reporting

·  Planning delivery of social inclusion activities known externally as Making Connections

·  Identifying and resolving issues and ensuring specified targets are met

·  Using People Planner software to roster staff and volunteers to clients and to measure outcomes

·  Provide monthly progress reports to Havering Council for Sheltered Housing and Neighbourhood Day Services contracts and other contracts when awarded

·  Attend monitoring meetings with Havering Council concerning delivery of social isolation tenders and implementing any agreed variations in the provision of the projects

Outreach and promotion

·  Working with colleagues in Communications to ensure there is sufficient promotion of social inclusion activities

·  Ensuring there is a frequent presence in Havering Council sheltered accommodation concerning Sheltered Housing contract

·  Researching and attending events to promote social isolation activities

Clients

·  Ensure records of people who enquire about being social inclusion activities are accurately maintained on People Planner

·  Undertaking and coordinating assessments of those accessing social inclusion activities

·  Using defined outcomes to determine impact and value of befriending

·  Ensuring there is integration of social inclusion activities for clients and clients are informed and referred to other Tapestry activities such as Wellbeing Centres and Home Care

Social Inclusion Activities

Working closely with the Social Inclusion Team

·  Ensure the delivery and development of Pub Clubs

·  Ensure the delivery and development of Making Connections clubs

·  Ensure the delivery or telephone and home visit support

·  Development of social inclusion activities across Havering and the wider region

·  Working with the Director of Communications and Income Generation to develop funding applications in order to develop the provision of social isolation activities

PERSON SPECIFICATION: SOCIAL INCLUSION MANAGER

EXPERIENCE

·  Relevant experience working in service delivery., preferably in the social care, or social inclusion sector

·  Working with a range of stakeholders and partnership working or strategic networking, spanning voluntary and care or health sectors

·  Plan, deliver and evaluate programmes and events.

·  Develop and maintain effective systems for collecting, collating and reporting information.

·  Experience of managing people both paid staff and volunteers

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

·  Clear communication skills face to face and on the phone or email, including with vulnerable people around sensitive issues

·  Ability to troubleshoot difficult situations, and deal with them calmly, efficiently and effectively.

·  Ability to deal with complex and sensitive matters on an individual basis in an empathetic and non-judgmental manner

·  Writing skills – produce reports and ability to write succinct documents on complex areas.

·  IT skills at a level that supports report writing, email, internet and database.

·  Time management and organisational skills.

·  Ability to engage and motivate others including staff and volunteers

·  Self-motivated with the confidence to work alone but can also work co-operatively and flexibly as part of a team.

·  Ability to stay focused and efficient in the face on changing priorities.

KNOWLEDGE

·  Knowledge of issues concerning social isolation

·  Understanding of press and publicity in relation to raising awareness

·  Understanding of events management

EDUCATION/TRAINING

·  No one specific qualification is required, but evidence of recent and relevant education or training is required.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

·  Able to travel extensively within the Borough and Region – ownership and access to a car is essential due to frequent visits to multiple locations

·  Able to work some evenings and weekends where necessary.

·  Works well in a team with a flexible approach to work
