Hobsons Bay Women’s Advisory Committee

We are currently seeking nominations from community members who would like to make a positive difference for all women in Hobsons Bay.

What is the Hobsons Bay Women’s Advisory Committee (HBWAC)

The Hobsons Bay Women’s Advisory Committee was established in 2011 to provide Hobsons Bay City Council with advice to:

  • achieve greater participation of women in leadership roles within the community of Hobsons Bay; and;
  • celebrate and recognise women who are actively involved in the community of Hobsons Bay.

The HBWAC is also responsible for:

  • advising the Council on issues impacting women’s participation;
  • advising the Council on new or revised policy on the impact of women’s issues to ensure the policies meet women’s needs and aspirations; and
  • promoting a positive image of women as leaders within the Hobsons Bay municipality through various initiatives.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible to submit your nomination you need to demonstrate:

  • A personal or professional link with women’s services or networks within Hobsons Bay;
  • Understanding of the needs and issues affecting women in the west;
  • A commitment to making a positive difference for women in Hobsons Bay; and
  • You work, live or study in Hobsons Bay.

What do I need to contribute to the HBWAC?

There is diversity within diversity, so we think it’s important for the HBWAC to be made up of women with different experiences, skills and knowledge.

Nominations will be assessed against the following selection criteria:

  • Interest in becoming a member of the Women’s Advisory Committee;
  • A good understanding of women’s issues from a professional or self / family perspective;
  • Good experience in representing women at different levels.

What do I have to commit to?

Being a member of the HBWACis completely voluntary. The HBCWAC meets quarterly each year from 7.00pm to 8.30pm with a light supper provided. You will be expected to attend the meetings and contribute to discussion, or note your apology in advance if you cannot attend.

The HBWACmembers are appointed to a two year term.

How do I nominate to be on the HBWAC?

We recommend that you read the Terms of Reference available on the Hobsons Bay City Council website.

Once you have read the Terms of Reference and are happy to proceed, you will then need to fill out the Nomination form and send it to PO Box 21 Altona VIC 3018 or email to Joanna Nevill:

Your Nomination form will need to be received by Hobsons Bay City Council by 5.00pm onFriday22ndMarch 2013.

Short listed applicants will be contacted soon after to arrange interviews which will take place from mid April. Successful applicants will then be endorsed by the Council and will join the Hobsons Bay Women’s Advisory Committee from the date of Council endorsement.
