EXPLANATIONS:

Head of Learning Area (HOLA)

The “HOLA”is responsible for curriculum and student programs, and implementation of school and department policies in each of the Learning Areas. At NASHS the HOLA’s are responsible for the following learning areas:

  1. Mr Ruffell: Society & Environment, LOTE and English
  2. Dr Swincicky:Maths, Science and Music
  3. Mr Gray: Technology & Enterprise and The Arts
  4. Mr Powell: Physical & Health Education

Out of Class Isolation

Whena student does not behave in an appropriate way in the classroom, the teacher and HOLA may place the student in Out of Class Isolation(OCI). This means that the student is placed in another classroom (usually an upperschoolclass). The classroomteacherwill then talk to the student about what is acceptable behaviour for their re entry to the classroom.

At NASHS we believe that everyone has the right to work in a safe and supportive environment that promotes learning.
NASHS is a positive behaviour school. The behaviour of staff and students is guided by our Circle of Values and Expectations.

SCHOOL RULES / RIGHTS / RESPONSIBILITIES NASHS has four rules and these are:
  1. Everyone is expected to act in a responsible and courteous and respectful manner and show respect.
  2. Everyone actively and positively participates in the learning process.
  3. The teacher is in charge and their directions are to be followed.
  4. Students are to wear school uniform.
“Everyone” refers to both staff and students. /

NASHS BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT FLOW CHART AS FOLLOWED BY STAFF

LEVEL I:

The teacher is in charge: Students advised & explained the expected code of behaviour, school values.
Teacher establishes a positive, supportive & engaging learning environment.
Protocols taught. The teacher uses in-class behaviour management.
LEVEL II: Behaviour Issue – Teacher Refer to Out of Class Isolation (OCI)
Blue OCI is Reflection time in another class. Student is given referral form and work.Issue recorded by teacher on the daily absentee sheet and resolved by teacher. Blue OCI data is collated by Student Services. Teacher may enter blue OCI data onto SIS if wish. Teacher liaises with Head of Learning Area
Student returns to classroom
LEVEL III: ContinualBehaviour Issues – Head of Learning Area Intervention (OCI)
Red OCI- Official Out of Class Isolation with pinkcontract & work, after liaison with HoLA.
Record OCI on absentee sheet
Parent telephoned by teacher and issue recorded by teacher on School Information System (SIS).
Contract completed within oneweek
Parent interview may occur with teacher & Head of Learning Area or Year Coordinator
Copies of contract and feedback to parent, teacher, Head of Learning Area, Year Coordinator, Deputy and student file.
Student returns to classroom
LEVEL IV: Continuing misbehaviour or significant incident
Red OCI out of Class Isolation as per level III or
Suspension– contract completed for school re-entry, discussion with parent and SIS entry. Feedback provided to teacher.
Return to classroom
LEVEL V:
School Panel for continuing serious misbehaviours
Deputy or Principal conducts School Panel to support the school, student and parent to identify and implement other solutions. School Panel may comprise of school, education and community representatives. A contract required for school re-entry.
Exclusion
Continuous breaking of Contracts/Behaviour Code.
School Panel, comprising school and community representatives, for possible Exclusion. Coordinated by the Principal. Regional Executive Director informed.
