WFESOL Meeting, 20 March 2017
Discussion points from 16 March at the Hornbeam Centre: Zelda

·  Timebank participants do not receive a qualification. After an assessment, this could change as students’ progress towards other service providers within the borough. The need for adequate signposting and supported assessment has been highlighted to address at the WFESOL meeting on Monday 20th March .

·  Hornbeam project co-ordinator Carolyn wants to signpost people to ESOL classes. This requires a list of the completed mapping of WF provision. In the meantime, Anna to send a list of conversation clubs to .

·  Identified a lack of connection between free community activities run by the Hornbeam and potential clients in the ESOL bracket. Removing isolation and English practice a boon. Actions required are leaflets at WFMAG (Carolyn) and future help with the promotion of these by service providers. The Hornbeam website /facebook page has further details of initiatives such as confidence in cycling for women/low cost parenting/healthy eating. The 100 unemployed project gives training in food safety handling and on completion participants receive a certificate. All free.

·  Anna has offered to give a debrief of the community conference she attended in November

·  Lisa will report on Hackney ESOL

·  RAMFEL has a refugee gathering on 24th March.

·  Need to amend/attend to the Terms of Reference. To address on 20/3/17. Fundraising and what position you carry to participate in WFESOL meeting had been contentious issues at a previous meeting.

·  Needing clarity : Working out who is the speaker/forecasting the invitations/relevance etc .Suggestion from Naffy in order to illuminate the topic of Universal Credit we could invite a representative from DWP. Action required.

·  Agenda item : format of WFESOL meetings. Add time for updates so we can learn about changes/additions in our sector . Cut our introductions and instead create a document that states our working title and related projects available at meetings/by email. Action required.
