Western Thought 2 Syllabus

Goals and Expectations

By the end of the school year, students should be able to discern worldview issues relating to the period of the Renaissance through the Russian Revolution. We explore God’s Word and discover what it has to say about the issues we confront during this class.

Students will:

1.  Recognize the progression of ideas that were key during the Renaissance.

2.  Follow the impact of thought and philosophy from the Renaissance into the Reformation and be able to discuss its causes and key ideas.

3.  Recognize and be able to discuss the impact of these two movements on the culture through the arts and literature.

4.  Understand the role of these movements on the ideas that formed governments in Western culture.

5.  Have a good understanding of the American Revolution, its foundations and its impact on the role of government.

6.  Be able to discuss the French Revolution and its impact, as well as compare it to the American Revolution.

7.  Understand the foundations of the Russian Revolution as we move through history toward the modern Western world.
