Welcome to Metals Week 2017

Metals Week is designed to be a week of creative and social enrichment where you can learn new techniques and explore seeing from different perspectives. You will be working with one of six master instructors in an environment that encourages opportunities to test ideas, try new techniques and create innovative work as well as network and exchange ideas with others jewelers and metalsmiths. Whether you come to learn new skills or enhance the skills and techniques you already know, you will have the opportunity to grow as an artist in metal.

This week of intensive metals studies will begin on Sunday, June 11 at 8:30 am with a brief welcome and introduction to the instructors and staff. Classroom time begins at 9:00 am on Sunday and runs through a “Culmination Exhibition” and reception after class on Thursday, June 15. Regular classroom workshops will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. (Daily lunch breaks are from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. – lunch is included in tuition.)

On Monday and Tuesday from 4:15 to 5:00 there will be lecture/demos in three of the classrooms each evening. Each Instructor will present a sampling of what’s going on in their classroom on one of the two evenings. This is NOT a hands-on time, but is a time for you to see what is going on in some of the other workshops and to learn about the basics of other techniques being taught during Metals Week. The three lecture/demos run simultaneously.

The week-long schedule is designed to maximize a rich and well-rounded experience with intensive studies focusing in the area and with the instructor you have chosen. Some workshops may be open in the evenings after dinner – check with your instructor for further information. Be sure to carefully review the Student Tool List for your workshop and to bring all required items.

On Thursday, from 4:15pm to 5:30pm, we will have an exhibition of student work created during the week. We encourage you to stay, show your work and view the creations of students in other classes.
