Welcome to Chemistry at VHS!!!

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year at Valencia High School! I am very pleased to have your son/daughter in my class. Because this class is so important, I have very high standards and expectations for all students. As a result, it is essential that your child have the support and guidance necessary for a successful year. I am ready and willing to assist your child in any way possible. It will take the concerted effort of you, your son/daughter, and me to ensure this success.

As parent/guardian, you are the primary source of motivation and support for the student. I ask that you monitor the completion of any work that is to be finished at home. The homework is designed to introduce a new topic, practice current topics, or to review older material. Students will be expected to complete assignments daily. I plan to give no more than 3 hours of work per week (average) to be completed at home. Additional time may be necessary to prepare for upcoming quizzes or tests.

I sincerely believe that the best way to learn is to be taught using a variety of methods. The majority of the instruction is given through lectures and class discussions. Nevertheless, students will also learn by observing demonstrations, participating in laboratory experiments, and collaborative activities.

The most important objective of this course is to get the students motivated and excited about learning. By the end of the year your child will have a better understanding of the subject, better organization skills, and will acquire techniques of learning that will ensure future academic success.

Your son/daughter was given a letter that lists the materials that are necessary for the class as well as grading and class rules. We have discussed these in class but please review them with your child in order to better understand what is expected.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via a voicemail message at 996-4970 ext. 10114 and I will return your call as soon as possible. If a quicker response is needed, you may email me at (email is checked daily).

Thank you for participating in your child’s educational endeavors. Please help to make this the best year at VHS. I look forward to meeting you at Back to School Night!

Sincerely,

Mr. Bilhartz
