Bursledon Surgery serves the whole of Bursledon as well as the surrounding areas ofLowford, Old Netley, Butlocks Heath, Netley, Hamble, Swanwick, Sarisbury Green, parts of Hedge End and Sholing.

Our team includes two GP’s, one Nurse Practitioner, a Practice Nurse,a Healthcare Assistant and a Phlebotomist as well as our Practice Manager, Reception Manager and Reception Administrators.

We offer a full general practice service and run specialist clinics for diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, asthma, COPD, antenatal clinics, child immunisations, family planning and counselling services. We also offer a blood taking service each week from Monday to Thursday.

Bursledon Surgery is a friendly happy surgery and we aim to treat all our patients promptly, courteously and in complete confidence.

Your Registered Named GP at this practice will be Dr. Vivian Ding.She is responsible for providing continuity of care to all of our patients, particularly those who are vulnerable or who have a chronic disease.
Surgery Opening Hours
The Surgery building is open during the following hours:

Thursday 7.30 to 19.30
Friday 8.30 to 18.30

Please note our phone lines do not open until 8.00am and we close for one hour, from 13.00 – 14.00 for lunch.

If you have an urgent requirement, we offer a certain number of urgent on the day appointments. Please call from 8.30am and you will be advised of a time to come down. Please only use this service if you need urgent attention on the day. Our Receptionists will be able to let you know if your query is suitable for on-the-day attention.

You can book routine appointments every weekday with a GP, Nurse Practitioner, Nurse, Healthcare Assistant and Phlebotomist up to 6 weeks in advance.

Dr Ding is a graduate of Southampton University Medical School, graduating in 1983. She is an experienced GP principal since 1989 and has interests in Dermatology, Diabetes, Family Planning and Paediatrics.

Dr Jonathan is a graduate of Windsor School of Medicine, St Kitts, West Indies in 2007.He has a special interest in Mental Health, Cardiovascular Diseases and Respiratory conditions.

Zero Tolerance
We aim to treat our patients courteously and respectfully at all times and expect our patients to treat our staff likewise. We take any threatening, abusive, anti-social or violent behaviour within surgery premises or on the telephone against staff or other patients seriously. If a patient ignores warnings to stop their unacceptable behaviour, then we will exercise our right to have them removed from our list of patients.

Repeat Prescriptions
You can request a repeat prescription by ticking the appropriate boxes on the request slip attached to your prescription & posting this in the box at the surgery entrance. If you are unable to collect your prescription personally, please provide a stamped addressed envelope and we will post your prescription to you. You can also order online via theOnline Patient Access portal using the link on our website.

We cannot accept repeat prescription requests over the phone.

Please note, we require 48 hours (2 working days) to process and issue prescription requests. Please help us help you by ensuring your prescription requests are submitted on time.

Prescription Delivery Service
We work with some local pharmacies to offer a prescription delivery service for the elderly or housebound. Please enquire at reception if you wish to use this service.

Concerns and Complaints
We aim to provide patients with the best care we can, but occasionally we can fall short of the mark. We encourage you to speak to whomever you feel most comfortable with;Doctor, Nurse,Receptionistor ask to speak with DanielFerrett(Practice Manager). If you have a complaint to make, please do not be afraid to say how you feel. We welcome feedback to help us improve our standards, care and services and you will not be treated any differently because you have raised a complaint - we will just do our best to put right anything that has gone wrong.

If you would prefer to give your complaint in writing, you are welcome to use our Complaint Form and send it to DanielFerrett, Practice Manager. In Daniel’s absence, your complaint will be actioned by the Patient Services Manager.

Home Visits & Out of Hours
Our doctors typically see four patients in the practice in the time it takes to do a single home visit. For this reason, we ask patients to come to the practice whenever at all possible. However, if your condition prevents you from attending an appointment at the surgery, please ring before 10am to arrange a visit and tell us if your condition is urgent.

Specimens
If a doctor or a nurse asks you to bring a specimen in to the surgery to be sent to the laboratory, please ensure all information is on the bottle. Specimens are collected at 11:00 am. Please ensure they reach the surgery before this time.

Test Results
Please phone the surgery after 15.00 for the results of any tests. Whilst we will do our utmost to notify patients of any abnormal results, it is ultimately the Patient’s responsibility to follow up tests.

Change of Address
Please let us know as soon as possible if your address changes. You may use the online form to notify us of your change of details. If you move out of our practice area, you will be required to register with a new surgery.

Minor Surgery
Dr Ding is trained and experienced in performing minor surgery including the removal of skin lesions, joint injections and cryotherapy (treating skin lesions with liquid nitrogen). These appointments are limited so there is usually a waiting list.

Working alongside the Health Visiting team, Child Health Surveillance at Bursledon Surgery includes a programme of checks and immunisations.

Maternity Services

AccessToMedical Records
If you require copies of records we are entitled to charge you a fee. Your records are the property of the Department of Health, and may not leave the premises. Your records are strictly confidential and only staff directly dealing with your care will have sight of them, and then only that which is necessary in order for their duties to be performed. The surgery takes the concept of confidentiality seriously and will not disclose any medical information to anyone, including spouses or other family members, without your clear, usually written, consent. Exceptions to this would be if a court order is obtained requiring the release of information, or if it is perceived that disclosure of information will prevent harm to others. These circumstances are extremely rare.

General Data Protection Regulations
We need to hold personal information about you on our computer system and in paper records to help us to lookafter your health needs, and your doctor is responsible for their accuracy and safe-keeping. Please help to keep your record up to date by informing us of any changes to your circumstances.

Doctors and staff in the practice have access to your medical records to enable them to do their jobs. From time to time information may be shared with others involved in your care if it is necessary. Anyone with access to your record is properly trained in confidentiality issues and is governed by both a legal and contractual duty to keep your details private.All information about you is held securely and appropriate safeguards are in place to prevent accidental loss.

In some circumstances we may be required by law to release your details to statutory or other official bodies, for example if a court order is presented, or in the case of public health issues. In other circumstances you may be required to give written consent before information is released – such as for medical reports for insurance, solicitors etc.

To ensure your privacy, we will not disclose information over the telephone or fax unless we are sure that we are talking to you. Information will not be disclosed to family, friends, or spouses unless we have prior written consent.

You have a right to see your records if you wish. Please ask at reception if you would like further details.

There is good access to all of our consultation rooms. There are 4 disabled parking bays in front of the surgery entrance which is easily accessible to wheelchairs. A wheelchair is available if required.
