Classroom Expectations

·  Follow all directions the first time they are given.

(Students should listen and read carefully and ask for clarification, if needed)

·  Respect others, property, and self.

(Bullying, name-calling, teasing, talking out of turn, and theft are examples of unacceptable behaviors.)

·  Be prepared for school & class.

(Be on time, bring required supplies, study, andcompleteworkon time.)

·  Share & wait for his/her turn.

(Share ideas, share supplies, and raise hand to speak.)

·  Putitemsback where they belong and useitems as intended.

(Push chairs in and keep four legs on the ground, leave things better than they are found.)

·  Follow all other school rules.

Classroom Procedures

1.Check the board for the day’s directions as soon as you get to class.

2.Record all assignments in your binder reminder before leaving class.

Disruptive Behavior

If a student is causing a disruption by any inappropriate behavior they will be given one warning. If they continue the behavior a consequence will be given. Talking during class shows disrespect to the teacher and the other students in the class and will not be tolerated.

Binders:

The student’s binder will be an essential component to a successful year, this binder will remain in class.Every student is required to keep a binder containing all class notes, homework, handouts, assessments, etc.Students are expected to have a binder with them daily.The binder will be randomly checked and collected several times each term and graded based on completeness, organization, and neatness.

Assessment/Grading Policy:

Students will frequently be assessed to determine their progress in class.Main areas of evaluation include class work, homework, assessments, student projects, quizzes and binder organization.In addition, students will also be evaluated on their preparation, participation in class, group work performance and their ability to work with others. Instruction will often be interactive, soclass participationandattendanceby all students is essential.

1.  Essays/assessments/projects = 40%

2.  Classwork/ participation/Binder = 30% (includes assignments completed in class, willingness to engage in discussion and activities.)

3.  Homework = 30% (based on timely completion of assigned homework that enhances and preps learning in class)

Absence/Missed Work:

If a student misses a class for any reason,it is her/his responsibility to find out what was missed during the absence.If necessary, the student must arrange a time (other than class time) with the teacher to make-up any work or take any assessments that she/he missed during any excused absences.She/he has the number of days absent plus one to make up this work.

Late Homework Policy:

Homework is considered late if it is not turned in the day (class) it is due.Late homework will be accepted the next day for partial credit.Late homework will not be accepted after 1 week from due date, a zero will be given. Projects and reading assignments are exempt from this policy – They must be turned in on the day they are due.

What Can Parents/Guardians Do To Help?

·Ask your child to share her/his experiences with you.

·Check that your child completes her/his homework in full and on time.

·Check/Sign your child’s binder reminder nightly.

·Contact the teacher with any questions and concerns you may have.

The material for the course will come from the modules on engageny.org. Parents may access the engageny.org website under the “parent and family resources”, to find resources that will help their children at home, to be successful in school.
