If you need your child to go home a different way other than the way depicted on your form, please send a note in writing. If your child needs to be added to a bus, you MUST submit that request in writing at least 3 days prior to the early release day.
**This policy also pertains to each school day, if your child needs to be added to a bus you must submit a written request 3 days in advance. We CANNOT add your child to a bus that same school day. If your child needs to move from a bus rider to a car rider on any day, there is no problem. You still must send in a written note, but they can ride home with you that same day.
Lunch Visitors- You will sit with us at our tables, please sign in at the office and get a visitor’s pass
Habit 7/Specials Schedule- Monday=Media, Tuesday=Music, Wednesday=P.E., Thursday=none, Friday=Art
Food
Snack* We will have snack time daily at 9am after specials. Please provide a healthy snack for your child (no candy or soda).
Birthdays *Per school policy, no class refreshments are permitted before 1pm. If it is your child’s birthday and you would like to provide light refreshments for the entire class, just let me know a couple of days in advance. Any food brought must be store bought. You may bring refreshments in the morning if you are unable to attend, we will save them for the afternoon.
Homework: Homework packets will be given out every Monday. This homework is for the entire week, Monday-Thursday. Your child’s homework will be checked daily. If there is a night when an emergency comes, please be sure to write a note or send an email regarding that reason. They can complete that night’s homework the next morning at school. Students will have spelling and math each night. A few weeks into school, students will also complete a written reading response after reading nightly.
Communication
Communication between teacher and parents is very important. We are working together in open communication to better the education and wellbeing of your child. Please feel free to email or call me with any questions or concerns you may have. Email will be the quickest form of communication.
Folders-Each day your child will bring home their navy homework folder. Inside you will find their weekly homework assignment sheet and monthly behavior record. Each Friday I will send home a Woodruff’s Weekly to keep you updated on class events, news, etc. Please be sure to check their folders nightly and clean out papers in the “keep at home” section of their folders. It is very important that you read these papers sent home each week.

Behavior
The first week of school, we will be reflecting on our expectations for the year and constructing our classroom mission statement. We believe it is so important to begin with the end in mind and stay focused on the goal.
Our behavior management operates on a clip chart. There is a seven level chart in our classroom and each new day, each student begins on the middle green. They can move up or down the clip chart depending on their ability to uphold the expectations of the classroom. You can find your child’s daily color on their behavior chart for the month kept in their homework folders.
Purple / Over the RainbowBlue / Breezing Along
Pink / Bright and Sunny
Green / Clear Skies
Yellow / Cloudy
Orange / Chill Out
Red / Stormy
Think Tank-
If students find themselves on orange, they will need to visit the “Think Tank” where they will reflect on their behaviors in order to prevent continued problems throughout the day.
Blurt Stones-
To help students begin to understand appropriate times to talk, students will have blurt stones. Each day every student begins with 2 stones on their desk. Anytime they choose to talk at an inappropriate time, I will ask them to give me a stone. If they lose both they must move their clip down from its current position.
Field Trips
We will be taking at least 2 field trips this year. Information pertaining to each field trip will be given well in advance for each field trip. Not all field trips include will chaperones. Our school requires that chaperones follow the buses and drive in individuals cars. Students must ride on the school bus with their class.
Leader in Me- 7 Habits
This year, our school is being transformed into a Leader in Me school. We are working to model 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, a philosophy adopted by Steven Covey. You will notice your child learning the following 7 Habits, and beginning to practice them not only during their school day but as home as well. We encourage you to ask your children about the following habits as they learn them, and discuss these habits at home with your families.
1. Be Proactive
2. Begin with the End in Mind
3. Put First Things First
4. Think Win-Win
5. Seek 1st to Understand, then to be Understood
6. Synergize
7. Sharpen the Saw
*Thanks for reading! Please let me know if you have any other questions. We are going to have a wonderful year together!
