WELCOME MONTH/ORIENTATION / INDUCTION

Welcome Ambassadors play a key role in welcoming new students, helping them to settle into and engage with University life. If you are a current student who is interested in meeting newpeopleand acting as a WelcomeAmbassador for the University in halls, on orientation events and/ or during the Welcome Month at the Hendon campus, then please read on……

Pay Rate: £8.80p/h and £11.07p/h

The higher rate is for selected Head Marshalls who will act as team leaders and/orwork at the airport as a part of the orientation events. These roles are suitable only for experienced students who demonstrate leadership qualities and aptitude during the selection process.

Period of work:Monday 7th Sept through to Friday 2nd October 2015

Flexibility:Compulsory dates for all welcome ambassadors: 21st – 25th September (international orientation events)and28th September – 2ndOctober

Selection:Week commencing 20th July

Training Day:One day at the end of July (to be finalised) and Friday 4thSeptember (both days are compulsory)

Please note that most duties will take place on campus and their associatedHalls of Residence, (Ivy, Platt, Usher),however there will be opportunities to welcomenew students at Heathrow Airport, and to assist in social eventsoff-campus.

Reporting to:With reference to recruitment, interviewing and training, all Welcome Ambassadors, in the first instance, must report to the designated member of the Welcome Steering Group.

Overall Purpose:To play a key role in supporting the main objectives of the welcome month – to introduce new students to:

  • The University - its facilities and resources, practices and processes
  • Our community - to theirfellow students, academics and service professionals
  • The skills, attributes and behaviours that will enable them to succeed in UK HE and our University

Principal duties are to:

  • Welcome, meet and greet new students as they arrive – at the airport, in halls of residence and on campus
  • Conduct campus tour guides
  • Answer new students’ general queries and direct them as appropriate
  • Staffwelcome help points for general queries
  • Guide students through the welcome administrative processes and events, and the learning development profile
  • Assist with social events and workshops
  • Support students with specific needs and concerns to access and engage with the welcome programme and events
  • Lead groups of students around campus activities
  • Carry out all other duties as requested by staff members

  • It is essential that you are a current student
  • You must be friendly, eager to help new students and be flexible in your attitude
  • Youmust bereliable, highly motivated, and with a positive attitude
  • You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • You must be a good team player
  • You must be of good standing and proud to represent the University

Hours:International students are not permitted to work more than 20 hours/week during term-time.Please note, the Autumn/Winter term starts on 5thOctober 2015.
