Website Content Support Volunteer

The Content Support volunteer will help to maintain and develop the Healthwatch Tower Hamlets website.

The website helps us to promote our role to members of the public and local, regional and national stakeholders. It is vital that the website content is fresh and up to date and enables local residents to access information, leading to better-informed decisions regarding their healthcare.

What the Content Support Volunteer will do:

Updating content on the website including:

Writing content and articles for web and mobile audiences.

Applying editorial consistency to the site.

Developing online information and signposting content

Working with the team to improve the usability and effectiveness of the website.

There are opportunities to work on specific projects that might suit your own skills or development needs and that would support Healthwatch Tower Hamlet’s aims and objectives e.g.

Embedding patient videos into the site around key patient feedback andconcern.

Developing and updating Healthwatch Tower Hamlets photographic database, identifying gaps; taking photographs and/or ensuring thatsomeone is available to photograph all key events and ensuring that permissions for photography have been granted.

Search Engine Optimisation: Updating the Healthwatch Tower Hamletswebsite content to make it more easily found by relevant internet users.

Researching and updating online listings and liaising with our partners regarding the Healthwatch widget having a place on their website.

Personal qualities needed:

A desire to improve other people’s lives

Flexible and enthusiastic

Reliable and responsible

Skills:

IT literate (competent in using MS Office Software e.g. Word and Excel);

Have an interest in online communications (social media, websites)

Experience writing, editing and proofreading for an online audience.

Able to write concise and compelling content to brand voice-and-tone guidelines, house style and SEO best practice.

Basic html skills

Organised and able to use your own initiative and a good team workers but also have an ability to work independently.

Ideally, some knowledge and understanding of health and social care service provision, either through personal or professional experience

Requirements

Time availability:

This is a flexible role and the time commitment will be agreed with individual volunteers depending on their availability - ranging from two or three hours per month to two or three hours per week. Activities could take place during the day, the evening or the weekend either in the Healthwatch office or the Healthwatch Hub. We hope that volunteers will stay with us for at least six months after the initial training

Training, support and supervision

All volunteers must successfully complete the Healthwatch Tower Hamlets volunteer induction. Further training on specific topics such as Dementia Awareness may be offered from time to time. All volunteers will receive regular support and supervision from the Outreach and Engagement Officer, Sab Siddiq.
