Weapons of Our Warfare

Greetings, I55 Moms:

I would like to talk with you this week about three of the weapons that we wield against the enemy. They are powerful and essential, and we should be using them frequently and purposefully. They are praise, worship, and prayer.

The last one we are most familiar with as we have joined together under the banner of I55 scripture prayers to unite with other women to pray each and every week for our sons and daughters. We may be new to scripture praying, but we are all convinced that prayer for our offspring is needful and helpful. Joining our hearts, our time, and our efforts with other Moms to petition Heaven for what God already intends for our children cannot help but produce results if we are willing to continue and not lose hope.

How is it that our hope for real change in these precious ones of ours will last and allow us to persevere through all that life throws at them and at us? Remember that the enemy of our souls would like nothing better than for us to give in to discouragement and quit. Heaven is pleased with our efforts, but Satan would like to shut us down.

We will be able to continue week after week, confident that God is at work behind the scenes, as we consider and get in the habit of using the first two weapons in our arsenal, along with our scripture praying. We do this by spending time each and every day contemplating how God has already blessed us and how He has been, is, and will be working mightily in the lives of our sons and daughters

We get in the habit of encouraging our hearts in the Psalms, using the words to reach deep into our own hearts to bring forth praise from our mouths. We speak aloud the ancient words of King David and others to remind both us and the enemy that God is the One in whom we must trust. God Almighty is faithful, true, compassionate, loving, strong on our behalf, able to fight for us, and willing to see that spiritual victory will be ours. This is the essence of wielding our weapon of praise.

“Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, my soul.

I will praise the LORD all my life;

I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. . .

Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob,

Whose hope is in the LORD their God.

He is the Maker of heaven and earth,

The sea, and everything in them—

He remains faithful forever.

He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry.

The LORD sets prisoners free.

The LORD gives sight to the blind,

The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down,

The LORD loves the righteous. . .

The LORD reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations.

Praise the LORD.”(Psalm 146: 1 – 2, 5 – 8, 10)

The second weapon of our warfare is worship. It is important to worship with other believers, and most of us attend church for that express purpose each week, but it is just as worthwhile to worship our Creator each and every day in the quietness of our own homes. What does that look like? It can take different forms on different days, but it can be a time of listening to praise music on the radio or online and joining in with the singers. Heaven does not care about the quality of our voices, just the intents of our heart. So I crank up the tunes and let the words soak into my soul, as I agree with the lyrics and lift my hands to heaven. It could also take the form of falling on my face before our great and mighty God, reminding Him of all that is on my heart and mind this day, listening to hear what He would speak to me, waiting to hear from Him in an attitude of quietness and readiness. It might be taking a walk around the periphery of our house or our neighborhood, being intentionally quiet or lifting my eyes up to Heaven to admire the works of His hands that appear before me. Maybe I would be taking that time to ask God, “What now? What do You, Father, want to tell me? How can I hear You better?”

To stay the course in prayer, our third weapon, we cultivate and nourish an accurate and healthy perspective using our other weapons, praise and worship, to focus on the Maker of Heaven and earth, who reigns forever. “Blessed are those whose … hope is in the Lord their God.” May we endeavor this week to practice wielding all three of the weapons that Heaven has placed at our disposal.

In Him,

Dianne
