November 17, 2005

To: Planning Commissioners

After over 4 years of diligent work by members of our community, the citizens of Franktown agreed upon recommendations to the Douglas County Planning Department, which then developed the plan before the Planning Commission. Many people worked long and hard to develop the current plan. It was a series of major compromises made from the input of the majority of the Public Advisory Committee members, and the Franktown community. Reasonable boundaries were established. The Plan included approximately 45 new residential units in the Village area and opportunity for limited commercial development. A Zoning Overlay was established to ensure a planned and appropriate look consistent with existing development.
On November 14, 2005, the Planning Commission convened and wiped out those four years of careful, thoughtful work. We demand that the 4 years of hard work and input by those who live in Franktown not be ignored just to satisfy the financial interest of developers.

We want to register our strong demands again for:

  • the maximum density for the village area of one unit per 2.5 acres be restored
  • the initial boundaries be restored.
  • the Zoning Overlay be restored to ensure uniform and appropriate growth in Franktown.
  • traditional central sewer and /or central water not be a requirement for the village area.
  • the transition A/B areas be removed from the plan

Franktown is a rural community and we like that about our area. We want the area left as rural as possible to preserve our wonderful quality of life. We would like carefully planned, limited development in the Village area. We do not want to become a town like Parker or Castle Rock, although we are happy to do our shopping there. Our goal is to maintain our rural lifestyle.

It is your responsibility to adopt a plan for and by the citizens of Franktown. The citizens of Franktown will not compromise this current lifestyle for expanded commercial services and increased density in the village area. We will not silently stand by and watch our rural community lifestyle be destroyed by the greed of a few individuals who do not live here.

We therefore submit our signature below as testimony that we agree with these statements and strongly request that our wishes be honored.
