FEBRUARY 17 UPDATE

New Boats!

We have two new boats arriving in the next few weeks.

A new coxed quad for the junior squad will be arriving soon. It will be named “Bertie Scott” and the naming ceremony has been arranged for Sunday, 2nd April. More details to follow, but put the date in your diary now.

The men’s squad will be trying out their new eight at the Head of the River, where it is being delivered. It will be named “Constantine the Great”; the naming ceremony will be arranged in due course. Our very sincere thanks to Martin Clark for his invaluable help in arranging the purchase.

GB Junior time trials

We had two members of the junior squad attending the GB time trials in Boston earlier this month. Lu Edmunds had a phenomenal trial, coming 5th overall. As a result, Lu has been invited to the Junior Spring Assessments at the end of March. Charlie McMann also put in a fabulous performance, improving his overall position in the squad from 34th to 20th.

Lu has also been shortlisted for the Junior Sportswoman of the Year at the Active York Awards.

Our congratulations to both of them.

Boat storage and access

You will all be aware how short of boat storage space we are. We are going to erect outside storage racks at the back of the boathouse to ease the pressure. This means that these boats will need to have easy access to the river and so there will be times when part of the car park will be out of use to enable crews to get the boats in and out without damage to boats or cars. If you see a section coned off, please respect the restrictions. Also, please do remember not to park at the side of the boathouse so that the singles and doubles stored outside can be carried to the river.

Diary dates – volunteers needed

The Yorkshire Head takes place in York on Saturday. 11th March. Organised by Yorkshire Rowing, it is hosted by YCRC and is an important event in the rowing calendar, as well as being a great fund and profile raiser for the Club. But we need volunteers to help. If you would be willing to help out behind the bar, email Alex Evans on ; Philippa Press needs volunteers to help with the catering and she can be contacted on and Rob Cree needs help with the myriad of other jobs that need doing to ensure a great event – contact Rob on .

One other event will be occurring In July which needs to go into your diary now if it isn’t already there – the 2017 Dragon Boat Challenge which will be held on Sunday 9th July. The Rotary Club have been organising this event for 15 years and they think that this year the total amount they will have raised in this event over that period will break the £1,000,000 barrier. We are very proud to host this event for the Rotary Club who do so much for the City (and we also make a bit for ourselves with the catering and the bar).

Other dates for your diary where we will be needing help:

Spring Regatta – Saturday 29th April 2017

Summer Regatta – Sunday 18th June 2017

And finally

Last but by no means least, a very warm welcome to our new members
