PLEASE TAKE TIME TO REVIEW THE REGISTRATION PACKET.
PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL INFORMATION BELOW!

REGISTRATION: Class sizes are limited will be filled on a "first come, first serve" basis. When applicable, parents are responsible for choosing the skill level of their student. However, BASICS reserves the right to recommend another option if the class selected is not the best class fit for the student. Early registration runs from 1/13/14 until 1/26/14. Registration will close on 2/14/14. You can register online through our website, or can drop off or registrations or mail them to: BASICS, 83 Freedom Drive, Cranston, RI 02920.

BASICS IS A PRIVATE ORGANIZATION AND NOT AFFILIATED WITH CRANSTON SCHOOLS. DO NOT SEND REGISTRATIONS IN TO SCHOOL AS IT WILL NOT BE PROCESSED, AND BE SURE TO CONTACT US DIRECTLY WITH ANY QUESTIONS!

If, after registration, there are not a minimum of 8 students registered for any class, that class will be cancelled. If the class you have registered for is cancelled, you will be contacted by BASICS within 3 days of the closing of registration. Whenever possible, we will suggest other options for your child so they may still participate in the music program in another location or during the evening classes. Otherwise, we will issue a refund for the tuition paid. Students may participate in as many classes as they choose to take full advantage of our programs. Please inquire if you have any specific questions regarding scheduling multiple class selections.

STRINGS INFORMATION: We are offering beginner and intermediate strings for students in grades 3-6. We recommend the following: beginner level for students who are either just starting out, or are still becoming comfortable with the instrument; intermediate level for students with 1+ years of experience with their instruments who have a sound understanding of the basic skills. Students are required to bring their instrument, music book, and stand to each lesson. These items must be rented or purchased separately, and are not included in the cost of the program.

BAND INFORMATION: We are offering beginner and intermediate band for students in grades 4-6. We recommend the following: beginner level for students who are either just starting out, or are still becoming comfortable with the instrument; intermediate level for students with 1+ years of experience with their instruments who have a sound understanding of the basic skills. Students are required to bring their instrument, music book, and stand to each lesson. These items must be rented or purchased separately and are not included in the cost of the program.

GUITAR CLASS INFORMATION: We are offering beginner and intermediate acoustic guitar for students in grades 4-6. (Actual guitars are required for participation, not “toy” guitars. If you have a question please let us know – “toy” guitars inhibit our ability to instruct properly as they do not stay in tune or encourage proper fingering.)

GLEE CLASS INFORMATION: We are offering glee for students in grades 1-6. What is Glee? Glee is a fun, current, modern version of chorus. The students will be singing popular songs and be able to help select their own music and making singing cool again! Students sing over tracks and with instrumentation. Students do not need to rent or purchase anything for this program.

A CAPPELLA CLASS INFORMATION: NEW! We are offering A Cappella for students in grades 5,6,7 and 8. What is A Cappella? A Cappella is an advanced version of singing where the human voice creates every “instrument” to recreate the instrumentation of the original song.
The students will be helping to create their own arrangements and work to replicate different sounds. Students do not need to rent or purchase anything for this program.

TUITION: Tuition for the 12-week semester is $175.00, but is discounted by $25 if paid in full by 1/26/14. If your financial situation requires a payment plan or other arrangements, please contact BASICS President, Kerri Kelleher, in confidence. During the first week of class, your child will receive $150.00 worth of raffle tickets, and the proceeds from these tickets are yours to keep. If you sell the raffle tickets and register early, your program is FREE! If you do not want to sell raffle tickets, simply write your own name on the tickets and turn them in to be eligible to win the $1000 prize. Tuition is used to pay for our music instructors and for costs directly associated with the music program, and BASICS does not profit from this program in any way. All payments should be made payable to “BASICS” and have your student’s name in the memo line. There will be a $25 fee for each returned check. Delinquent accounts will be subject to collections and possible legal action under RI State law.

REFUNDS: There will be no refunds given for students who miss classes or exit the program. Classes are staffed and scheduled based on the number of students enrolled. In a case where a student suffers a prolonged illness that also keeps them from attending school, exceptions can be made on an individual basis. Classes missed due to illness can be made up during a session at another location as needed with the instructor and BASICS’ knowledge and consent.

WEATHER CLOSINGS: We will follow the cancellations for Cranston Schools. If the schools are closed due to weather we will not have classes on that day. We will post our cancellations on Facebook, and with the Rhode Island Broadcasters Association, which will be posted on every network and radio station, as well as through subscribed text alerts. In some circumstances, school may be open for the day, but after-school programs may be cancelled by the school district. Please contact BASICS any time you are uncertain about the weather or about cancellations! The safety of our students is important!

FUNDRAISING & COMMUNITY EVENTS: BASICS is a parent organization, dedicated to making the lives of Cranston students better through increasing communications, promoting discussions, and providing programs and opportunities for the children in our city. We do not require families to help us with our fundraising or community events, but participation is encouraged and appreciated. We are hosting a wonderful dinner & comedy show on February 8th, (adults only!) for only $40 per ticket. This is a great night out and a great value… and it is also a very easy to support our organization! Information regarding all events is available on Facebook, and our website, as well as through email.

COMMUNICATIONS: In order to keep the cost of this program down, we use email as our ONLY source of communication. We must have a valid email address to reach you! Please remember, BASICS is not affiliated with the Cranston Public Schools. Do not call your child’s school for information regarding this program or about classes! Join us on Facebook for current information and to participate in discussions on what is going on in education today. You can always contact BASICS through Facebook, via email, , or you can contact BASICS President, Kerri Kelleher, via cell, 401-241-1561, or Music Director, Peter Kelleher, via cell, 401-226-8448 with any questions or concerns. We do our very very best to return all calls and emails within 24 hours at most.

VOLUNTEERS: We need parent volunteers at each school to help during classes and with dismissals. We CANNOT run the classes without parent assistance, so please consider becoming a parent volunteer at your school! We are always looking for older students to volunteer as well. High School musicians can become classroom assistants, and help mold the next generation of musicians while sharing their passion AND earning community service hours!

PARENT CONDUCT: Please remember that BASICS is a volunteer parent group. We ask that you please refrain from using inappropriate language with our instructors and our BASICS members and that you behave appropriately at all times. Parents who violate this policy are subject to having their student removed from the program, or from being banned from events or classes.

LATE PICKUP POLICY: Parents should be at pickup 5 minutes before class ends. Our instructors are not paid by for their time beyond class, and it is unfair to keep them there beyond dismissal. After a five minute “grace period,” late parents will be charged a fee of $1.00 for every minute late. This fee must be paid directly to the instructor at time of pick up.
