“Water First for Thirst”Teen Leadership Board Application

The Ohio State University Extension and Columbus Public Health Department have teamed up to create a new Water First for Thirst (WFFT) program to help teens be promoters of healthy beverages in their communities. This project will include meetings with 4-Hers and Junior Fair Board members from all over Ohio, brand new educational materials, and activities created through youth input foryouth.

We are offering teens the opportunity to be specially selected leaders within their 4-H clubs, junior fair boards, FFAs and other organizations! Being chosen for a board position will give you the opportunity to

  • develop your leadership and communication skills
  • be one oftwo WFFT board members to attend the 4-H National Youth Summit on Healthy Living in Washington D.C. (travel and registration paid by program)!
  • haveyour name listed as a contributor to a brand-new health curriculum

Special consideration will be given to youth with experience incooking/nutrition and fitness projects, but allyouth between 1518 are encouraged to apply! This is a great community service credit opportunity!

Requirements for WFFT teen leadership Board Membership

  • Be between the ages of 15 and 18 and/or a Junior or Senior at the beginning of this academic school year (2014-2015)
  • Have been an active member in 4-H for at least 4 years OR an active member of your local Junior Fair Board or FFA for at least 2 years OR another youth organization for at least 2 years
  • Be available for the Water First for Thirst Curriculum training on May 9, 2015
  • Be excited to work with other youth on developing a new health curriculum on increasing water consumption
  • Be excited to serve as a WFFT leader within your communities fromOctober 2014—May 2015
  • Be available to attend the National Youth Summit on Health Living in Washington D.C., February 12-16, 2015. Two youth from the board will be chosen to represent our project at the summit with travel and registration costs covered.

WFFT teen leadership board Member Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively participate in2 WFFT Leadership Board meetings located at the Ohio 4-H Center in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, December 6, 2014 and January 24, 2015 for the purpose of developing the curriculum (All transportation costs will be covered)
  • Keep up-to-date on WFFT curriculum development by consistently checking and responding to emails in a timely manner
  • If chosen,be available to attend the Youth Summit on Healthy Living, February 12-16, 2015(travel and registrationwill be covered for 2 youth).
  • Attend the WFFT Leadership Training, May 9, 2015

(All associated costs will be covered)

  • Serve as active leaders in WFFT implementation within your local clubs and boards
  • Demonstrate healthy beverage consumption to your 4-H, Fair Board, FFA, or other peers
