We will be working daily on subtraction with and without regrouping, addition, and subtraction facts. Please have your child practice addition and subtraction facts at home. Flash cards work very well!

Everyday Math games on-line are a great way for your child to practice math! Please encourage your child to go on the website.

SCIENCE

We are finding out about Solids and Liquids and their relationship to one another. Experiments include roll or stack, sink or float, and using magnetic attraction. We will also be participating in our science enrichment activity this month that goes right along with our Solids and Liquids unit!

LANGUAGE ARTS:

This month we will be reviewing homophones, synonyms, antonyms, abbreviations, and where capital letters should go. We will be learning about subject, predicates, verbs, pronouns, and adjectives. The goal is for the kids to be able to take what they learn in our Write Source Language Arts and carryover it over into their daily writing.

Reading:

They are fantastic readers! I am so impressed with their reading abilities. I have seen some tremendous improvements this year. I’ll continue to monitor their fluency/comprehension. Please make sure that your child is reading every day. This is important to their success as a reader. In our Comprehension Toolkit we are working on Inferring/Visualizing.

Infer and Visualize: Inferential thinking helps readers to figure out unfamiliar words, draw conclusions, develop interpretations, make predictions, surface themes, and even create metal images. When readers visualize, they construct meaning by creating mental images, seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, and even smelling!

In our Reading Workshop morning rotations, we are continuing to work on word work, writing, guided reading groups, and reading to self, and partner reading. These groups allow children to build their independent skills and work with me in small groups throughout the week.

Social Studies:

We will be researching United States Presidents and their accomplishments throughout their lives. Each child will be assigned a president to research. We will work on this in class and present them when we are finished. The students find studying presidents fascinating and they learn so much about our country’s history!
