126,000 Customers Lost Power Last Night in Washington Metropolitan Area
Wednesday evening’s storm left about 65,000 Pepco customers, 40,000 BG&E customers, and 21,000 Dominion customers without electricity. As of this morning, more than 38,000 customers in Montgomery County and 6,000 in D.C. remained without power. Pepco expects all power to be restored by Friday night at 8 p.m.

50,000 CL&P Customers Without Power in Connecticut July 27
About 50,000 Connecticut Light and Power Company customers lost power yesterday evening as violent thunderstorms crossed the area. Less than 700 customers remained without power early this morning.

CL&P Set New Record in Connecticut July 27
Connecticut Light and Power Company set a new record for demand in Connecticut Wednesday, peaking at 7,150 megawatts, breaking the old record of 7,065 megawatts set last week.

ISO New England Broke Record July 27
ISO New England reported a new record of 26,946 megawatts, breaking Tuesday's record of 26,749 megawatts.

Atlantic City Electric Broke Peak Demand Record in New Jersey July 26 and 27
Atlantic City Electric reported peak demand for electricity for July 26 and 27 at more than 2,740 megawatts, breaking the previous record set last week on July 19 when 2,683 megawatts were needed to meet customer demand.

Vermont Yankee Nuclear Reactor Exiting Outage
The 510 MW Vermont Yankee nuclear generating station of Entergy Corp began to ramp up as it exited an outage. The unit automatically shut down on July 25 when an insulator in the switchyard failed. According to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the unit was operating at 2 percent of capacity by early July 28.

Ginna Nuclear Plant Shut July 27
The 470 MW Ginna nuclear generating station of Constellation Energy Group was taken off line on July 27 following the introduction of untreated water into the steam generator. According to the company, the unit will operate at 5 percent of capacity until the source of the problem is determined and repairs are completed.

Demand Records Shattered July 26 in the Middle Atlantic and Carolinas as Heat Wave Continues
All-time records were smashed in the Carolinas and Middle Atlantic as customers pushed demand to new record levels. New records were set in the service territories of Progress Energy, SCANA, Duke, Pepco and the PJM region.

Fire at Murphy Refinery in Louisiana Not Affecting Production
A broken tube resulted in a small fire at the Murphy Oil Corp Mereaux refinery in Louisiana. The fire, which occurred in a hydrotreating unit at the 125,000 b/d facility, was quickly extinguished and according to the company, while the unit is down overall operations at the refinery should not be affected.

Natural Gas
Small Pipeline to Be Built in Wyoming
Rendezvous Gas Services LLC, a gathering company owned by Questar Gas Management Co. and Mountain Gas Resources Inc., was given the green light by FERC on Wednesday to build a small natural gas pipeline from a processing facility in Wyoming to an interconnection with Kern River Gas Transmission.

House Passes Energy Bill
Following the successful negotiations to reconcile the differences between the Senate and House versions of the energy bill, by a vote of 275 to 156, the House approved the measure. The Senate is expected to approve the bill before the Congress recesses on July 29.
