Dear Patient:

You have been scheduled for surgery at Washington Hospital Center on ______. Your approximate time of surgery is ______. You are expected to be at the surgery center approximately 1 to 2 hours before your surgery time. If there is a change in time of surgery you will be notified.

You must have a pre-operative physical exam completed by your primary care doctor. Please download from our website and bring with you to your physical exam the following form: history and physical. Some pre-operative tests may be required by your primary care doctor, and are available at the hospital’s testing center. Please note that some tests are required within 7-15 days of the surgery and may only be available with an appointment at the testing center or your primary care doctor’s office . Please call Washington Hospital Center’s testing department, at (202) 877-7169, for more information.

Please do not have anything to eat or drink after midnight, the night before your surgery. If you are required to take medications, you may do so with a sip of water. Do not take any aspirin or aspirin-like drugs at least 2 weeks prior to your surgery.(Aspirin can interfere with your ability to stop bleeding) The morning of the surgery please wash face and neck thoroughly and DO NOT apply any creams or make-up.

You must arrange for an adult to take you home from the hospital after your surgery. You will not be allowed to leave on your own, in a cab, or on public transportation.

Dr. Plotsky will notify you when you should make your POST-operative appointment.

If you become sick prior to your surgery it may need to be rescheduled. Please contact me as soon as possible, or you may call the surgery center directly, if on the day of surgery. As always please don’t hesitate to give me a call at the office.

Sincerely,

Ophthalmic Technician/Surgical Scheduler
