WAPELLA SCC GENERAL MEETING

Call to Order: 6:37

In attendance: Sandy Hintz, Brittany Holloway, Karen Holloway, Heather Statz, Amanda Sauve, Carol Flynn, Kevin Hengen

2)Thank you for all of your time and efforts that you give freely to our school

3)Review Meeting Norms

4)Karen moves that the minutes from the Nov. meeting be adopted. Brittany seconds.

5)It was mentioned that two members, Chair – Tammy Berry and Secretary/Treasurer – Alaina Crease had both resigned needing for people to step into their executive roles

6)Replace three positions: Tabled until next meeting. Chair Wendy J., Secretary , Treasurer

-Discussion around the empty spaces

-Will wait for further instructions from Kevin Hengen before positions will be filled

7)Financials: SCC Account - Amanda and Sandy still have signing authority to pay bills

- SCC Fundraising account $1811.11 - double check about the status of the Scotia Account with the Division’s book keeping software….

-Grant account balance: $1178.62

-Hot lunch bills are outstanding –

9. Mr. Hengen presented the SCC Workshop power point presentation.

As an SCC our primary focus needs to be how we can support the School Learning Plan.

 Information shared:

  • Early Years, Reading gr. 3 to Level O,
  • Writing 1-9 grade level 80% provincial holistic rubric in grades 4 & 7 for our school,
  • math 2020 gr. 1 – 9 80% at the A or M at the end of the year,
  • improved grad rates too.
  • Attendance : chronic is 2 days per month each month over the year, warning signs 10-17 days missed, satisfactory is 9 or fewer based on a 180 day year.

-What can the SCC around attendance? Help to promote the importance of attendance within the community, helping to get kids to school, food for thought

-Next meeting Wendy J will share the compiled list of how other SCC’s support the schools.

OLD BUSINESS:

-Rental Agreement – most renters will be charged a cleaning fee– to clean the bathrooms, garbage, recycle, carpets, floors, toilets, change rooms, etc.

- Toy Bingo Report–Heather – had $409 in costs, bingo dabbers, etc. $711.50 so made a $302 profit,

- SCC is hoping that more staff will be able to volunteer at the next bingo

- prizes were donated – the donation list has grown now – more people want to donate – plans for another one later in the spring

-Christmas Dainty Report – Karen – big hit, Heather and Karen delivered the cookies with a few kids

  • Students enjoyed it as well
  • Seniors really appreciated it too
  • Fits as part of the 40 developmental assets

- Hot Lunch Report – Heather – redid the schedule – the group communicate through Messenger on Facebook to organize the meals and volunteers

- next hot lunch is pancakes and sausages on January 26th

- Rocks & Rings set for the afternoon of Feb. 6th – Pipeline Foods is sponsoring the $320 fee. Wendy J to send a thank you card.

- CP Rail Presentation report - Wendy J. Excellent presentation in both rooms. Was attended by the RCMP as well. Railroad safety and dangers around the tracks was presented.

- Christmas Concert Raffle/Candy grams - $970.60 an even $1000 donated to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital – toy drive is still coming

- Cook book report – Costs were $1330.00 Sales as of Jan. 11 $1725.00 1 ¼ boxes remains of the 3 boxes purchased

NEW ITEMS:

  1. School/Community Garden – See New Business Sharpes’s Garden proposal– Amanda
  2. Sharpe’s approached Amanda and said they want to do a garden, pay for everything, do a presentation, have the kids plant it, take care of it and harvest it, summer students will take care of it over the summer,
  3. Winter Carnival/Winter Olympics – planning committee needed–February 16th – 10:30 – group on Messenger – wiener roast and veggie sticks, skating and other activities to be planned
  4. Educational Staff Appreciation Week – planning committee needed
  5. One School One Book – SBB – SCC to purchase the movie - Heather has it on DVD and on Netflix too
  6. Family Literacy Day – ideas for how can the SCC support this? Secret readers? Wendy J to invite Sheryl and Hal, and look into Leith Brown from Yorkton to read, Renee Oswshwa authors to visit – Wendy to check (Karen, who is the second author?
  7. Math Night in March – SCC members to be thinking how to support the staff
  8. Send home first names for Valentine’s cards to students
  9. Motion to pay bills: No bills received
