VOLUNTEER INFORMATION 2017 CHERRY BLOSSOM RUN

Race Date: Sunday, April 2, 2017

Volunteer Assignment: Water Stop Alpha -on Memorial Parkway (Rock Creek Parkway) near the Lincoln Memorial. On the sidewalk on the opposite side from the river. Parallel to volleyball courts going away from Memorial Bridge. That is located around 2.5 miles into the race. The runners will be coming off Memorial Bridge and heading up Rock Creek Parkway. Shortly after they pass the back of the Lincoln Memorial, there is a sidewalk with volleyball courts on the other side of the sidewalk. The water stop will be on that sidewalk. It will run most of the length of the railing on the sidewalk.

Time of Assignment: 5:30-11:30AM -- Please be on time! We cannot guarantee a volunteer assignment or entry into next year’s CUCB run if you are late for your volunteer shift or do not work your entire shift.

Check In: All volunteers will receive an email a few days before your assignment with a QR code. We will use this QR code to sign in all volunteers. All volunteers should bring the QR code(on your phone or printed out) to your station captain. Your QR code will be scanned to check you in; this will guarantee that you get your entry code for next year's race.

Meet Goody Tylerwho is the leader at Water Stop 1. You will receive your long sleeve volunteer shirt there.

Getting there: There is no parking immediately at the water stop. You need to park on city streets such as 23rd Street near the State Dept., the parking lot at Thomson’s Boathouse at Virginia Ave, Constitution Ave. where allowed. Metro does not open early this year.

Information about your duties:

  • Dress appropriately for the weather. Even on a nice day it can be a bit chilly near the water so probably best to wear layers.
  • The race starts at 7:18 a.m. so the first runners (elite women) will get to you by about 7:30a.m.. The elite women start first and the elite men start at 7:30, the rest of the crowd starts in waves in about 3 minute intervals. The last of the runners should be passing you by about 9:22.
  • We are expecting around 16,000 finishers so that is many cups to fill and handout. Good news is you don’t have to do much clean up. Just rake any that have gotten off the road back unto the road and the clean up crew will get them. In fact, the clean up crew will show up minutes after the last runner.
  • We recycle everything that is recyclable including clothing. So if a runner drops clothes off please leave it on the curb. The cleaning crew will pick it up.
  • The pitchers that you use to dip the water are disposable. Just stack them and the cleaning crew will get those too.
