Chief Executive Officer

Remuneration:£50,000 per annum

Location Westminster

Hours:35 per week

Reporting to:Chair of the Trustee’s

  1. Main Purpose of the Job
  • To work effectively with the Board of Trustees of The Young Westminster Foundationto ensure that the charity delivers its strategy and achieves its objectives.
  • To ensure that The Young Westminster Foundationcomplies with its statutory and legal obligations.
  • To secure income to sustain The Young Westminster Foundation’s work through planning and implementing effective fundraising and income generation strategies, and to make the best use of resources through the efficient and prudent management of the organisation.
  • To ensure that the organisation manages external relationships in a way that promotes The Young Westminster Foundation and enhances its image and role in the community.
  • To lead staff and volunteers so that the services provided are of a high quality.
  • To produce, for agreement with the Board of Trustees, and implement plans and proposals for the future development of The Young Westminster Foundation.
  • To ensure fundraising activities conform to the aims and objectives of the charity.
  1. Key Duties and Responsibilities

Working with the Board of Trustees:

  • To support the Board in their role and responsibilities and to ensure that they operate in accordance with the Memorandum and Articles of Association and The Young Westminster Foundation policies.
  • To ensure that all legal requirements are met.
  • To ensure that the Board of Trustees receives relevant and appropriate advice, information and recommendations on service activity and development, financial management, human resource issues, internal policies and procedures, relevant external issues and any other areas that may require Director input or approval.
  • Ensure that a fully up-dated register of risks is produced and reviewed by the Board regularly.

Financial and Resource Management:

  • To secure and manage income from a variety of sources, ensuring funding requirements and conditions are met.
  • To ensure that the organisation submits high quality applications to relevant grants and local commissioning tenders, whether independently or in partnership with other local organisations.
  • To work with the Finance function to prepare, manage and review budgets.
  • To ensure that adequate funding is available and to work with the Treasurer and Finance function to produce regular management accounts and annual audited accounts in line with requirements.
  • To ensure financial management is in line with legal requirements and good practice.
  • To secure resources to enable the organisation to implement agreed plans.
  • To keep The Young Westminster Foundation’s premises under review to ensure they are affordable and suitable for purpose, taking account of the potential future size and shape of the organization.

External Relations:

  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with private sector donors, statutory, partner and funding organisations.
  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with partners, local employers, funders and other voluntary organisations, building alliances and networks to support the work of The Young Westminster Foundation.
  • To promote and publicise the work of The Young Westminster Foundation.

Staff and Volunteer Management:

  • To ensure that policies and practices are in place to enable The Young Westminster Foundation to meet its legal responsibilities towards staff and volunteers.
  • To ensure that the structure and management style provide a supportive environment, promote co-operation and provide opportunities for professional development.
  • To ensure that staff and volunteers understand and comply with organisational policies and procedures and Health and Safety requirements.

To carry out other tasks as agreed with the Board which facilitate the smooth running of the organisation.

Essential Criteria

  • Commitment to and empathy with volunteering and the local voluntary and community sector.
  • Willingness and ability to work effectively with the Board of Trustees to develop the organisation.
  • Ability to take responsibility for the strategic direction and management of the organisation. Understanding and experience of strategic planning, implementation and review.
  • Proven skills in the development of new ideas and projects from inception to implementation.
  • Experience of effective partnership working and management of external relations, and the ability to develop good working relationships at senior levels.
  • Proven skills in securing funding, including preparing funding applications and negotiating contracts.
  • Ability to prioritise work and staff to meet the organisation’s objectives.
  • Evidence of effective staff management.
  • Proven skills in managing organisational finances, including budget setting, monitoring and review.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of internal policy development, implementation and review (e.g. equal opportunities).
  • Ability and willingness to deal with day-to-day operational tasks as well as strategic and policy issues.
  • Good presentation and communication skills, both oral and written and computer literacy.
  • Experience of establishing a charitable organisation.
