Voith at ComTrans 2017: Efficient and sustainable solutions for buses and trucks

Heidenheim/Moscow. Voith will present innovations that increase vehicle efficiency, safety and sustainability at ComTrans 2017 - the International Commercial Vehicles Auto Show that will take place at IEC Crocus Expo, Moscow, from September 4th to 9th.The DIWA.6 automatic transmission, Air Compressor LP 490, Retarder 115HV and Turbo Retarder Clutch VIAB will be showcased at Voith booth 472, Hall 15.
DIWA Automatic Transmission with Stop-Start Technology
Specially developed for city buses, the DIWA Automatic Transmission is essential for clean and fuel-efficient vehicles, especially in the context of the Euro-6 requirements. City buses spend up to forty percent of their operating time in idling mode. The new Stop-Start Technology from Voith for the DIWA.6 transmission offers an ideal enhancement for these stop-times. The DIWA.6 with Stop-Start Technology potentially saves fuel by approximately twelve percent and can achieve the spectacular value of up to 60 seconds shutdown time without any effect on vehicle start-up readiness. The great advantage is that this requires only a software enhancement,there is no need to modify the design of the existing DIWA.6 transmission.
DIWA.6 Automatic Transmission.
The excellent efficiency of the DIWA.6 transmission is achieved by utilizing various programs such as the topography-dependent gear-shifting program SensoTop; an intelligent start-up management that avoids starting against the active service brake; the need-based reduction of the operating pressure; and by the optimized Automatic Neutral Shift (ANS) function that allows the transmission to stay decoupled from the engine for a longer time period.
Air Compressor LP 490 – energy efficient on all roads.Auxiliary units such as air compressors in trucks and buses contribute to reducing emissions and saving fuel by as much as 1.0 l/100 km. The pre-charging process of the system with its unique intercooling system results in a significantly reduced power uptake during delivery operation. At the same time, the compression temperature drops, which allows longer duty cycles of up to eighty-five percent and therefore increases the air delivery per hour, while the stroke volume remains the same. As a result of reduced temperatures, the engine oil is subjected to less stress. Oil cracking and the formation of harmful substances are therefore prevented.
Hydrodynamic Retarder 115 HV ensures safety, driving comfort and energy-efficiency.A winner in braking performance comparison with 3,500 Nm braking torque, it allows effective braking at maximum speed without gear-changing. Retarder 115 HV extends the service life of the braking system, protects the drive line and pays off within one to two years. VR 115 HV reduces harmful fine dust emission up to eighty percent and saves fuel up to 0.33l/100 km.
Turbo Retarder Clutch VIAB –transmitting power efficiently. The VIAB is an innovative wear-free integrated starting and braking system. Itcombines the advantages of hydrodynamics with the high efficiencies of mechanical drivelines. Compared to conventional torque converters, the VIAB allows full utilization of the maximum engine torque at any operating point. This results in low starting speeds and optimized fuel consumption. The VIAB is overload-proof and excels by its high thermal stability. The VIAB allowshighly sensitive maneuvering, powerful starting and safe braking with no wear, even on difficult terrain and for loads up to 250 tons.
