JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE:CONGREGATIONAL CARE PASTOR
RELATIONSHIPS: The Congregational Care Pastor will work in a team environment with a team of 5 pastors in a large multi-faceted suburban church. There is one other part-time Congregational Care Pastor on staff. This position is not appointed by the Bishop.
HOURS:15-20 hours a week.
DAYS:Preferably Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; will be finalized in consultation with the Senior Pastor.
IN ADDITION: It is hoped that the Congregational Care Pastor will worship withthe congregation regularly on Sunday mornings, at least 2 Sundays per month.
QUALIFICATIONS: It is hoped that the candidate be an ordained pastor, but lay persons will be considered. The candidate needs to possess a natural care for persons, and have excellent listening skills.
DUTIES: The Congregational Care Pastor will make a variety of personal and phone visits with parishioners under the direction of the Senior Pastor, Dr. Frank Fowler. These will include visits in hospitals, nursing homes, other institutions, funeral homes, and personal homes. The nature of the visits will relate to the full spectrum of pastoral care, such as friendly connection visits, family crisis matters, visits related to deaths in the family, prospective member visitation, etc. This ministry will not include pastoral counseling.
In any given week there may be as many as 20-25 contacts, calls or visits.
In addition to these duties, the Congregational Care Pastor (if ordained) will have the occasional opportunity to conduct weddings, funerals and share in worship services if he/she so chooses. These optional activities are understood to be above and beyond the 15-20 hours per week of pastoral care. Should the Congregational Care Pastorchoose to do any pastoral counseling or spiritual direction, it would be on a voluntary basis and not part of the 15-20 hour per week commitment.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Congregational Care Pastor will consult regularly with the Senior Pastor and make visits in accordance with their mutually agreed upon priorities. Attendance at a weekly clergy staff meeting and a bi-weekly full staff meeting is required; these are held on Wednesday mornings. A very brief written summary of all visits and contacts is required to be submitted within 48 hours of all visits. A background check is required before employment begins, as is sign off on the church's Safe Sanctuary Policy. The person is also accountable to the Pastor Parish Relations Ministry Team and the Administrative Board; occasional attendance at these evening meetings may be requested.
OFFICE: There will be a small shared-space office in the office building.
VACATION: Two weeks of vacation are allowed in this position; also, some other occasional absences may be arranged in what will be a flexible work relationship.

COMPENSATION: Salary range$13,000 – $17,000
Expense Allowance range$ 2,500 – $ 3,000
