Visionary Families:

Your student has been assigned a computer based assessment today. The Compass Learning assessment is a series of tests that will allow the Compass software to customize a learning path that your student can work on for the entire school year. Students may access Compass through the “skills links” page of the Vance website.

There are eight separate assessment tests that I need your child to take over the course of the next thirty-six days. These tests do not need to be completed in one sitting. Students may pause the test and come back without penalty. The program does require that students answer any question that they have viewed before exiting the test. I have established a schedule for completing the tests. Tests need to be completed by midnight of the deadline date. Students will be able to meet these deadlines if they answer an average of 6-7 questions a day. There will be a test grade worth 100 points given for completion of the assignment. Each test is worth 10 points, and students can earn 20 bonus points for completing all work on time. On the completion date for each testing period, I will credit each student with 10 points if the test is completed. If the test is not completed by the due date, your student will have a zero for the assignment until it is done. If your child completes all nine tests by the due date, he or she will receive a bonus 20 points. All students must complete the testing. Students who complete all eight tests on time will earn a 100 on the assignment.

Please encourage your child to do his or her best work, but do realize these are pre-tests and some skills may be unfamiliar. We will utilize our Compass path as a way to give students extra practice on skills specific to their individual needs all year long.

I appreciate your dedication to helping us develop a learning path that is unique to your student. I am committed to providing students multiple practice opportunities to prepare them for success in seventh grade language arts.
