Our next regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 and is scheduled to start at 12:45 PM in St. Bernadette’s Church Hall.
Lunch: Potluck style. All members attending are asked to please bring a main dish, salad or dessert of their choice. If members do not bring something the food can run out before everyone is served. If your dish contains nuts or shellfish (shrimp, lobster, etc.) please put a label noting that on the dish.
If possible, place an emphasis on the main dishes. This will ensure that all attendees will have an equal chance to enjoy all the courses available. (If you do not usually cook some examples of things to buy and bring are a roast chicken, pizza, salad, etc.)

Thursday, December 7, 2017 - Christmas Tour of Governor’s Mansion - Meet at the Governor’s Mansion, 200 N Blount St., Raleigh at 9:45 am for tour of the decorated rooms of the mansion. Admission is free, but we are asked to bring toys and books for Toys for Tots. Lunch will be at Big Ed’s about a half mile down the street from the mansion. Parking will probably cost around $5.
Saturday, February 3, 2018 - You Can’t Take it With You at Garner Performing Arts Center, 742 W Garner Rd, Garner, at 2 pm. Cost $12. You Can’t Take It With You, winner of the 1938 Pulitzer Prize is a classic American stage comedy that deftly blends elements of farce, slapstick, whimsical humor, social commentary, and romance, together with a generous dash of good-natured optimism about the human condition. First staged in December, 1936, at the time when the United States was only beginning to recover from the bleakest days of the Great Depression, You Can’t Take It With You was the third play written by the team of George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart the most successful collaborators in the history of American theater.
Thursday, March 8, 2018 - Church Basement Ladies at Temple Theatre, 220 Carthage St., Sanford, at 2 pm. Cost $22. Church Basement Ladies has been playing to sellout crowds for 29 months in Minneapolis. The church basement kitchen throughout much of America is often the heart and soul of any church. In Church Basement Ladies, we meet the pastor, three main kitchen cooks and one daughter who run the kitchen and care for the congregation by preparing and serving the food. Like any great kitchen, problems are solved here as well. We see the four women handle a Lutefisk Dinner, a funeral, an Easter Fund Raiser, and, of course, a wedding. The stave off potential disasters, have fun, share and debate recipes, instruct the young, and keep the pastor on due course. This musical comedy based on recipes, food, and change in the church is funny, heartwarming, and down to earth. It will bring back memories of many people you know from churches everywhere.

Five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other's lives. The Dixie Swim Club focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of thirty-three years. Sheree, the spunky team captain, desperately tries to maintain her organized and "perfect" life, and continues to be the group's leader. Dinah, the wisecracking overachiever, is a career dynamo. The 6,000 square foot museum features both permanent and rotating exhibits on farm life, southern medicine, domestic skills, rural social life, and artifacts. Sunday, June 10, 2018 - Don’t Dress for Dinner - Raleigh Little Theatre, 301 Pogue St., Raleigh at 3 pm. Bernard is planning a romantic weekend with his mistress in his charming converted French farmhouse, while his wife, Jacqueline, is away. He has arranged for a Cordon Bleu cook to prepare gourmet delights, and has invited his best friend, Robert, along to provide the alibi. It’s foolproof. What could possibly go wrong? Well… Suppose Robert turns up, not realizing quite why he has been invited. Suppose Robert and Jacqueline are secret lovers and consequently determined that Jacqueline will not leave for the weekend. Suppose the cook must pretend to be the mistress, and the mistress is unable to cook. Suppose everyone’s alibi is confused with everyone else’s. An evening of hilarious confusion ensues as Bernard and Robert improvise at breakneck speed.
October 20, 2018 - Dearly Departed - Garner Performing Arts Center, 742 W Garner Rd, Garner, at 2 pm. Cost $12. In the Baptist backwoods of the Bible Belt, the beleaguered Turpin family proves that living and dying in the South are seldom tidy and always hilarious. Despite their earnest efforts to pull themselves together for their father's funeral, the Turpin's other problems keep overshadowing the solemn occasion: Firstborn Ray-Bud drinks himself silly as the funeral bills mount; Junior, the younger son, is juggling financial ruin, a pack of no-neck monster kids, and a wife who suspects him of infidelity in the family car; their spinster sister, Delightful, copes with death as she does life, by devouring junk food; and all the neighbors add more than two cents. As the situation becomes fraught with mishap, Ray-Bud says to his long-suffering wife, "When I die, don't tell nobody. Just bury me in the backyard and tell everybody I left you." Amidst the chaos, the Turpins turn for comfort to their friends and neighbors, an eccentric community of misfits who just manage to pull together and help each other through their hours of need, and finally, the funeral.
